Christmas Trees

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive December 2007: Christmas Trees

Just got our tree, got it up, put on 3 strings of lights and one doesn't want to light up. I suppose I will check out the fuse, but I'm guessing we will have to buy new ones. They aren't even that old. Argh.

It was kind of fun buying a tree, while it was gently snowing, though!

We just went and got new lights. It's almost easier than trying to figure why a given string won't light up. It wasn't the whole string either, just part of it.

This time we bought 2 strings of clear white, frosted white, and blue by Phillips! It's really pretty! The white lights give me the brightness I always want and the blue gives me the color I like, too!

We had three strings of lights that dh used outdoors the past 2 years that worked fine when we took them down but not one would light up when he went to put them up this year. He replaced the fuses and then checked that they had current with his little meter thingy. And checked all kinds of stuff. Never could get them to work. He was aggravated.

Oh Dawn, I bet that looks pretty! I might copy you next yr. :) The boys and I drove around looking at Christmas lights the other night and my favorite house had these cool blue lights mixed with white. :)

I put my multi colored lights on the tree again this yr. did the garland w/multi colored lights down the stair railing, and did a table top tree in the dining room with more multi colored lights. On the little table top tree I put all of our glass blown ornaments. It's cute. If it's not to wet outside today (snowed here yesterday-i think i need to move to colorado to get the samt of snow I would like!! lol) the boys and I will try to get the multi colored lights on the spiral junipers that flank our porch steps out front. :)

My neighbor uses white lights with a mix of red lights everywhere. I think I am going to try the blue/white next yr.

Dawn, this is the first time in 8 yrs that we have put up a real tree. I am afraid it's not getting enough water...Do you have any tricks? I can't remember what we use to do with our real trees. OF course, my dogs keep drinking the water??? grrr I think this tree is giving me allergies too. ugh. It mixed with the firewood I am burning and then the dry heat of the heater...UGH I am getting pretty miserable with the coughing, sneezing, runny nose, sore throat, headache. blech I need to get the humidifier going today and see if that helps some. (this turned into a whine- sorry! lol)

I just try to water it the same time every day. Mine was very thirsty. I had to give it a lot of water this afternoon, and probably will check it tonight, again.

Jasmine doesn't drink the water. It's a rather closed-up stand, so I don't think she could!

It's a good thing, if your tree is thirsty. That means it's taking up the water and staying moist. It's less of a fire threat that way.
