Does anyone have Vontage phone service?
Do you like the service? Is is clear, no static, delay etc? How about customer service? We have at&t and they are a pain in the rear!! I am looking for a reliable phone service that is low cost, unlimited long distance preferably. If it weren't for the fact that I have my mom long distance to call and my kids I would give up the phone entirely, just recently my dh cancelled his cell phone since he rarely used it, I could cancel mine since we are under no obligation, but dd's we are still under contract with. Does anyone have one of those pay as you go phones? Does that save money? Ever since we switched to att their service has stunk, static on the phone, a delay when the phone rings etc. They sent us filters to put on our phones but didn't send enough so they told us that we need to go and purchase the other filters. So, does anyone have vontage for their home phone service? How about a pay as you go cell phone? The only reason I keep my cell is for my mother to get ahold of me if need be, (she lives alone) and dd and ds to get ahold of me if they need picked up. Needing some imput.
I have Vonage and I like it. It's clear and much cheaper than out local phone company. The other advantage I really like is that you can log onto the Vonage site to check your call history and listen to voicemail. There are a few disadvantages. If the power goes out or you can't access the internet, you have no phone. Also, if you download or upload using P2P software it affects phone quality a lot but the fix for that is simply switching off the P2P software while using the phone.
Do you have to use dial up with vontage? Currently we have dsl, I wouldn't want to go back to dial up. Can you even have dsl or cable if you go with vontage?
Do you get a delay when you pick up your handset when your waiting for a dialtone?
In order to have Vonage you need to have a high speed connection like dsl or cable. Can't answer your other question about a delay. Many of my friends have it and I never hear any difference in sound quality. Ame
We do have dsl, dh was worried that we would have to switch to dial up again if we went with vonage. We were going to go with vonage a few years ago, we went with another company instead, the name escapes me now, it was really horrible, there was a delay when you picked up the hand set and also a delay when waiting for the other person's response in the conversation, we went with them on the recomendation for a co-worker of dh's I couldn't wait to get rid of them fast enough, that's why I was wondering about vonage, I see their commercials all the time. Thanks ladies!
There's no delay that I notice but you certainly don't switch to dial-up. It only works over high speed connections so you definately keep your cable or DSL.
Can you use a fax through the line? We were thinking about Vonage too...
