We moved into our house last July (2006). Before we moved I swore that I would not take my parents old, ugly dining set into my new house. It was cheap when they bought it and there were only 3 chairs left that went with the set. So no way was I bringing that into my new, beautiful home. I didn't care that my dining room would be empty for a while.
We finally ordered our new dining room table and chairs from Arhaus furniture in September. The sales woman said that we would have it by the holidays for sure. The date on the receipt said that the estimated delivery date was October 17th. Oct. 17 came and went. I called on Oct 31 to ask about it. She said it was back ordered and would be in by NOV 17th. Ok, that is still before the holidays so that was fine. The sales woman called around Nov. 17th and said that it was ALL in and asked if they could deliver it on Tues before Thanksgiving. Well I was working that day and could not get off work to be home so I told them they could not deliver it that day and that Wed. and Fridays were good for me. She said she would take care of that and call me the next day with a new delivery date. She never called the next day. The following day was Thanksgiving. The following Monday came and I called to ask what was up. I left a message and the girl never called back. She finally called back this past Monday and said that the delivery would be here on Thursday (!! what part of Wed and Friday does she not get?) I wasn't about to tell her no again so my mom was nice enough to be here today for the delivery guys.

They actually showed up 1/2 earlier than they had said but luckily mom was already here. Table is beautiful and the 4 chairs are great.....wait 4 chairs? I ordered 6 chairs!!! ARGH!

So once again I called the dingbat...i mean girl at the store. I spoke to another sales woman and asked her what happened. Apparently those other 2 are on back order. She swears that all six were ordered and she doesn't know what happened but apparently my captains chairs were deleted or something from the order. I asked when they would be in...January 5th! Now, ladies I don't usually go off on people. I am usually very calm and quiet and hold in my anger. But believe me, they know that I am upset. I told her that the first saleswoman told me that they would be in by the holidays and that i have 12 people coming for Christmas and would like to use my new table and all the chairs. I reminded her that I ordered this stuff in September.
My original sales woman called back and left a message saying that she would speak with the inventory people and figure this out and call me tomorrow. We will see if that happens.

Oh, I can understand why you are so upset! Ordering in September and not receiving your full order until January is ridiculous. I'm assuming that this wasn't any kind of special order or custom-made furniture. I REALLY hope they are able to get your chairs to you pronto!

I think I would go all the way to the top with my complaints and get some kind of good discount on their major screw up. Too many times these people are not held liable for their mistakes.

That is ridiculous!!! I would demand they refund any shipping cost, and some of the purchase price. I mean, small delays are acceptable, but that is a pretty big screw-up!! It's my opinion that it doesn't really matter if a company screws up, because mistakes happen, but you can really judge a company by the way they handle their mistakes. Good luck!

I would be asking for some sort of discount as well Bellajoe. You've been beyond reasonable with them.

o.k., so it's not just me, i'm not being unreasonable. Good to know.

They are captains chairs with the upholstery that I chose on them. It's not like they are custom made chairs or anything.

i'll let you know what happens.

I would be angry too. We went through something similar. I bought a huge table that seats 10. It came in in pieces. Two chairs, then four and then finally the whole set. I was so mad by the time the whole set got here. I complained and I suggest you do too.. I spent good money on my set, the first set I had ever bought everything else had been second hand and it so was bad business for it to be handled the way it was.

However, we love our huge table. We have had as many as 12 people pulled up to it to eat and we still had plenty of room... We are an, if at all possible, everyone sits at the table for dinner family.. With four kids the table is generally always full with their friends on the weekends..

Best of luck, I hope they can make this right quickly and that you can have Christmas at your new table... (((HUGS))) give em heck..

We just got a dining room set too!! We had NOTHING but problems getting it. In fact, if I hadn't been looking for months for a set, and not finding anything I liked, I would have canceled my order. I bought mine from a small family owned store, and it was a nightmare. I found it back in the middle of Sept. They told me the table, 2 arm chair, and 4 side chairs were in stock. They would order 2 additional side chairs and the buffet, and it would take 4-6 weeks to get. Well, when they delivered the table and chairs that were in stock, they showed up with the table and only 2 chairs!! When I called the store they gave me some story about how the other chairs were damaged, all 4!! So, then the 4-6 weeks passed, and another 2 weeks, I didn't hear anything. When I finally called, my items just happened to come in that day. I think they were sitting there for weeks, and no one callled me. More happened, but you get the picture. I ended up complaining, nicely, but firmly. They ended up giving me 10% off, which was a lot considering how much I spent. So, I would complain and see what happens. I will keep my fingers crossed that you get the rest before Christams!
