Texas Sheet Cake help
I am making a Texas Sheet cake for Thanksgiving. My recipe suggests to use a 12 X 18 oblong pan, but I don't have one of those. All I have is a regular 9 X 13 cake pan. Would the cake turn out okay if I use this pan? Would I need to cook it longer? If so, for how long? The original recipe says to cook it 20 minutes. I do have a large pan that I cook biscuits and cookies on. I wonder if this is the type of pan that I'm supposed to use for this cake. I don't know the size of the pan, but I will measure it to see.
I use a half-sheet pan for my Texas sheet cake and it's 12x18x1, I think. If you have to use a 9x13 pan, I'd drop the temp by 25 degrees and start checking it at the usual time then check every 5-10 minutes after that. Good luck!
My SIL is going to see if she can find a pan the size I need today when she goes shopping. I hope she can find it, if not, then I'll just have to use something I have and hope it turns out well.
I made one and used a regular cake pan and it turned out great! I prefer it that way. I did cook it a little lower than the recipe called for and just kept check on it. It turned out wonderfully!
The cake didn't turn out well. I did end up using the correct size pan though. But it ended up being lopsided because my oven is apparently uneven. Then the icing was so thick that I couldn't spread it on the cake and it wasn't even enough to cover the whole cake. I went into town last night and bought some icing and put that on the cake. I tried a piece of it and I guess it tastes okay. It's very chocolaty though, so I don't know if anyone will want to try it. But I have two other desserts if no one wants the cake.
