Laundry
How often do you do Laundry? Do you have a certain laundry day or do you just do when needed? I can honestly say I do it 6 out of 7 days. I have enough laundry to do 7 days a week. Normally I don't do it on Saturdays, simply because we are in and out all day doing stuff outside the home. I guess with a family off 5 we make a lot of laundry LOL... We are trying to break my 8 yr old of the habit of throwing her pj's in the laundry basket each time she wears them. We explain if she takes a bath before bed, then her pj's can not be dirty in the morning.UGH...I nomrally do 2-3 loads a day.
I usually do a load or two every day. Sometimes I'll skip a few days, and then I'm sorry because Mt. Laundry can get overwhelming. LOL! It seems there are always dirty clothes, sheets, towels, etc..
Jackie, since my mom is here, I have to wash her clothes ALL the time or the smell will linger throughout the whole house. 4-5 loads now...ugh. So, I hear ya...too much laundry! We have front loaders now and I can't add laundry once I've started a load. Drives me nuts.
I do laundry almost daily too. We are only a family of 3 and it can really pile up for some reason!
I do laundry every day. Anywhere from 3-5 loads for a family of 5. And that's with the big HE washer that fits more clothes in it.
I do 2-3 loads of laundry about every 2-3 days, family of 3. Ds does it sometimes, too.
Even with just DH and me, I do laundry nearly every day! I am a freak about laundry though. I am very picky about not mixing darks with lights, and whites or towels or jeans all get washed separately from anything else. Once a month or so I wash the comforter and the blanket on the bed, as well as the rugs in both bathrooms. So I feel like I am constantly doing laundry.
Usually every day except Saturday! Laundry is never ending.
I do 2-3 loads every day. Like Trina, I definitely regret it if I miss even one day.
I do a load a day - rarely 2. I like small loads so I do it often. Ame
I do two or three loads a day, Monday through Saturday. We are a family of five so I do towels on Mondays, the master bedroom laundry on Tuesdays, the kids each have a day Wednesday-Friday and sheets are done on Saturday. It doesn't bother me to do it everyday. I used to be done with laundry by noon when I wasn't working..
I do a couple of loads about every other day. My DH recently discovered the problem with our dryer (I had a previous post about it aking it soooo long to dry). I'm a new woman! Every load is one cycle of 60min. now, NEVER more, regardless of how large the load is. It's so exciting! I'm not spending the ENTIRE day drying one load anymore.
I do laundry pretty much every day. With 7 of us, I can do a load of jeans every day. With these big machines, though, I can fit 2 days worth in them. If I forget a day, it's not as overwhelming as it used to be. Karen, you mentioned sorting. I have to sort into whites, darks, lights, blues/green, reds. My line looks pretty funny some days.
those who sort would cringe if you saw me lol = )
Oh, you're supposed to SORT them, too? My son doesn't like sorting. If it were up to him, he'd stuff them all in together. I sort towels from the socks/underwear/washcloths and hand towels. It's easier to get through a clean load to fold if all the small stuff is in one basket. (I also put any white t-shirts in that load.) We wear mostly just cottons (low maintenance wardrobe) so I wash the colored clothes together in cold water.
I sort - lingerie, jeans & heavy stuff, white whites (linens, towels), red & red tones, blues & greens. I have finally, after 3+ years, convinced my son to sort. We each do our own laundry and whoever is doing a load of whites grabs the dish towels in the pile of dirty ones on the basement floor. What I really, really hate is items that require washing alone several times until the excess dye washes out. My firm gave out lovely, plush king-size towels for Christmas gifts last year, and they had to be washed alone 6 or 7 times before they stopped bleeding dark blue dye.
Ginny, when you get items like that, you can bleed the dye out by soaking them in cold, salt water. Works like a charm.
Thanks, Marcia. I'll try that next time, but I hope there's not a next time.
A friend of mine brought me a beautiful bag from Guatemala. I decided to wash it one day, and didn't even think to bleed it first. Well, it bled itself...all over half of my wash!! Those clothes were garbage, because that was some pretty strong dye! Not a mistake I plan on making ever again!
Ginny, that's funny you bring up the towels. Earlier this year after we had the house repainted, etc., we bought all new towels for both bathrooms. I got 4 sets of 3 different colors for my bathroom, and one of those colors is a deep, rich purple, which I *still* wash separately. I also wash the dark green ones for *Jen's* bath separately. Of course, 4 or 5 sets of each color make a full load anyway, but then it takes 3 hours to dry!!!! LOL Years ago, when I first met DH, we stayed at his friend's apartment near DC one night. The guy had bought new towels, etc. and he put the new stuff out for us to use. I was in the shower, and suddenly there appeared to be blood everywhere! He'd bought dark burgundy towels, and the washcloth I was using was bleeding the dye all over me and the shower. LOL
I hate doing laundry. It is such a mundane task. I used to do a load every day, or two even. But now I do load a max of 3 times a week. I wash a jeans load, a load of darks, a load of whites and another load on monday or tuesday. I do a two loads of sheets and towels on wed. And then I do another load over the weekend if I need it. I just wasn't keeping up. I keep a minimal amount of clothes for everyone now. They don't get to wear 10 outfits a week. Everyone only has 2-3 pair of jammies, they know to put them on their bed and wear them several times. They hang their towels after use, they only go through 2 a week. We have a large family of 5. I had to streamline it. My dryer went out two weeks ago, I took a trip to the wishy washy after 7 days, I was able to wash 8 loads and get everything done. LOL speaking of top loaders vs front loaders. I used all top loaders and 1 front loader at the mat, I didn't really see a difference, ect the front loader cost twice as much!
