Mouse in the house
I was sitting at my computer, in the basement and kept hearing rattling plastic. I really didn't think Jasmine was downstairs with me, but it sounded like if she was licking something plastic. I finally turn around and no dog. So, I go to the wastebasket and sure enough, a little black-eyed creature is looking up at me. So, I grab the wastebasket, show everyone else in the house, including the dog and then lay the wastebasket on its side outside. Eventually the mouse comes out and runs into some leaves by the side of the house. I suppose I should have deposited him farther away, but it's cold out and I hadn't put on a jacket. I'm hoping he doesn't find his way back in, but I suppose we'll end up seeing him again.
Well, it's cold out and your house is warm. Any mouse hoping to spend the winter in comfort will find it's way back in.
Most likely. I suppose Gary will really have to set out some traps. I just wish they could stay gone, without having to be dead. It was kind of fun having show-and-tell this morning, since it was contained in a garbage can. We came home from vacation and found one trapped in the washing machine! LOL! Maybe it's the same one.
EEEekk! I'm sure the little guy will be back, lol. He'll probably tell all of his little family that you have a no-kill-mouse-house and they'll all come by ;) ;)
Better what you found than what I found! Much cuter, anyway. Ame
No-kill mouse house! ROFL! Sounds like a mouse rescue! Any foster parents for some mice? Just kidding!
Dawn, I'm surprised that Jasmine didn't tip the wastebasket over and get him before you saw him. Didn't she "exterminate" another one in your basement, or was that Honey? I'm glad that you took him/her outside and gave them another chance at life. Have Gary look around and see if he can find where they are coming in and plug it. I heard an exterminator on the radio the other day say that they only need an opening the size of a dime. We have two garden sheds on our property. One is very old and they inhabit it in the winter. We mostly only store fire wood in there anyway. I have three indoor/outdoor cats and they bring me "presents" from time to time. I hate to see that. DH was turning over a compost pile one Spring. It was very warm in the middle. He unearthed a Mama mouse nursing all of her babies. He said she looked up at him with pleading little eyes, so he just covered her and her little family back up with the warm compost and let them be. I once emptied the grass catcher after mowing the lawn, and a live mouse ran out. Poor little thing must have been scared to death. It must be awful to have so many predators (cats, owls, hawks, etc) and be so low on the food chain.
