Thanksgiving Cooking
Its almost that time year where we start burning in the kitchen. What are you cooking plans this Thanksgiving?
Let someone else do it! LOL What are your plans, luckyduck?

Ditto Heidi! Never cooked a Thanksgiving meal yet, and I'm trying to keep it that way, LOL! We have both sets of parents in town, so we go to someone else's house for Thanksgiving.
I want to go to Yvonne's!!

I cook every year and love it. appetizers - let someone bring them main dish - turkey w/chestnut stuffing, and a spiral ham, maybe a roasted veg. lasagna this year too. sides - mashed potatoes, my mum's gravy, various veggies, homemade spiced cranberry sauce, some kind of mashed sweet potato, cranberry and pecan dish, rolls. dessert - apple pie, pecan pie, coconut cream pie, some kind of cheesecake - maybe a pumpkin ginger one, gingerbread cookies and whatever else I whip up.
My oldest dd is running in a 5K that morning and then we'll head to my mom's for dinner. I've never had to make a full holiday dinner. I'll be taking Broccoli and Cauliflower Gratin and I always take care of the desserts. I think I'm making pumpkin creme pies and a cranberry-pear tart this year.
We host it at our home, but everyone cooks and brings stuff. This year, I am making 2 turkeys (one in the oven and one in the deep fryer) noodles, gravy and dessert. Everyone brings at least one side dish and a dessert.

Vicki, fried turkey is sooooo good. I never had one until we moved to the south! LOL!
I cooked (well mostly dh) last year since my mom had a hysterectomy. This year we are going to be with my dh's extended family. I just need to bring a dessert! We might end up at my parents too if invited. Our arrival is what makes it different from an everyday meal for them.
LOL Mrsheidi. My mother is going to do the bulk of the cooking. I'm more of the baker. I'll be making an apple pie and a pumpkin cheesecake. Has anyone heard about the Safeway 3 Hour Thanksgiving Meal turkey.safeway.com ? 2 hour recipe and alot more there.
My aunt makes all her pies from scratch, even her pumpkin pies. *sigh* I wish I could cook/bake like she does.
All the kids go to my X's and his folks' for Thanksgiving - that was how we did it when they were young (Christmas was *my* holiday), and it will be just DH and me. Since we are leaving the following week for Ecuador, rather than cooking a bunch of stuff that will leave a bunch of leftovers, we are just grilling steak or baby back ribs, grilled corn, grilled red peppers and salad with goat cheese, walnuts & raspberries in it. I'll have *my* turn in the kitchen at Christmas hopefully - if all the kids come and agree to help me out some. LOL
My sister-in-law is hosting this year! Woo Hoo! I'll be bringing the rolls and dessert. It's kind of nice not having to do it this year!
Hey by the way http://turkey.safeway.com/lounge.cfm got some good leftover recipes for Thanksgiving. I never know what to do besides make soup. Got some good tips from here.
I am adding this for the two vegetarians. Butternut Squash Lasagna with Caramelized Onions 1 large butternut squash (about 1-1/2 to 2 pounds) 1 tsp. kosher salt or sea salt 1/2 tsp. black pepper 1 Tbsp. butter 3 Tbsp. olive oil, divided 3 medium-to-large yellow onions, sliced into rings pinch of sugar 1 pound lasagna noodles (regular, no boil or refrigerated) 1 cup part-skim ricotta cheese 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 cup unsalted butter 1/4 cup all-purpose unbleached flour 2 cups 2% milk, heated in the microwave 1-2 minutes until warm, but not boiling 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese 1/2 cup part-skim mozzarella cheese, shredded Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Peel butternut squash, slice in half and scoop out the seeds. Cut into 1-inch chunks. Toss squash with 1 Tbsp. olive oil, kosher salt and black pepper. Spread out in an even layer on a half sheet pan or a Mario Batali pizza pan if you have one (the Batali pan is an excellent tool for roasting vegetables). Roast 35-45 minutes, turning once or twice, until butternut squash is browned and fork-tender. Remove from oven and turn the oven temperature down to 350 degrees. Meanwhile, heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions and saute 1-2 minutes until the onions start to soften. Add the pinch of sugar and reduce heat to medium-low. Continue cooking onions until they become very soft and golden brown, stirring occasionally, about 20 minutes. Set aside. If you're using regular lasagna noodles, prepare them according to package directions. Drain, but do not rinse. In a 3 quart saucepan, heat the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook 2 minutes. Add the milk all at once, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Let the sauce cook about 5 minutes, until it coats the back of a spoon. Transfer the butternut squash to a food processor. Add the ricotta cheese and nutmeg. Process until smooth. To assemble the lasagna, spray a 9 x 13 pan with nonstick cooking spray. Place about 1/4 cup of the white sauce on the bottom of the pan. Top with enough lasagna noodles to cover (it doesn't matter if you have to cut the noodles to fit). Top with half of the caramelized onions, then half of the butternut squash mixture and 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese. Top with another layer of sauce, then the noodles, the remaining caramelized onions, butternut squash mixture and the rest of the Parmesan cheese. Finish off with a layer of noodles, the rest of the sauce and the mozzarella cheese. Cover with aluminum foil and bake 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake another 15 minutes. Allow the lasagna to rest at least 20 minutes (30 minutes is even better) before serving. Serves 10.

Is this her business? To me, it looks like a website by a company called Safeway that has recipes on it. I can't find anything that is being sold or anything.....

Sometimes people get some kind of kick back based on the number of hits the website gets. But it's possible that she's just being helpful, too. Hard to tell. Safeway is a grocery store chain.
FYI, this person said they worked for "Crest" a few weeks ago and asked everyone "Anyone heard of Crest White Strips?" and a clothing line. The mods deleted it. Now, their occupation was changed to Safeway and marketing the same thing. Ditto Cocoabutter on the kick back scenario. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but twice now?
LOL Interesting! If one is affiliated with the company in an employee capacity, it would be with the parent company, not the individual product.One would say that they work for Proctor and Gamble, in the instance of Crest.

Heidi. You raised this issue with a moderator by e-mail, which is the appropriate way to handle concerns. The moderators reviewed the post and the link. Very specifically, the post you list about Crest was promptly removed by the moderators. Two of the links you post above are on sites other than Momsview and, frankly, not the business or concern of the moderators. The link in this specific thread is to a Safeway site that has recipes for using Thanksgiving leftovers. Two posts on Momsview since joining in late August does not, in the view of the moderators, constitute spamming. If a moderator had caught Heidi's post before others responded to it, it would have been removed, because this is not appropriately an on-the-board discussion. However, because others have responded to Heidi's post, removing it would have raised more questions. We request that this discussion end here. If you have any concerns, we request that you raise them with the moderators by e-mail, as set forth in the posting guidelines.
Just and FYI, my history with monitoring this board tells me that the URL: http://turkey.safeway.com/lounge.cfm, is not a pay per hit link. This is a standard URL, with no code to connect it to a provider. In general, if a ink is a pay per hit link it will have an embedded code, a series of numbers is generally used or a user type name embedded. They would have to have a way to connect the hit to the person providing it. With a standard link, that you copy and paste, there is no way LuckyDuck is getting paid for providing this link as in there is no code/way to connect her to the search of the Safeway site. Most grocery stores have a link to recipes and such as a service to those that use their sites.. See the link bellow. There are several members that I can think of that have been here for years that share links in the group quite a lot but it is in a I know some place you might not know about come look/suggestion. As I said, my history tells me this isn't a pay for hit link, which is why it was not addressed. This was also the case in the other links posted by Luckyduck, which is why no action was taken. Heidi, we do truly appreciate your concerns but the moderators on this board have been at this for years. I have been member/moderator of this board going on 11 years this May, we know what to look for and we are constantly looking out for the best interest of this group. This post was left because we were aware of what a link requires to be a pay for hit link. Even if she had posted it as a clickable link we would have checked into the URL before we allowed it to remain. Things are under control and I am sorry you felt we allowed something to slide/slip by but I promise you that this is not the case. Happy posting everyone, by the way the Kroger link I posted has suggestions for leftovers too. I can't ever figure out what to do with the leftovers myself. PS, I worked for Krogers for over 2 years and they are lucky to pay you for your work, forget any bonuses for sending someone to a website....
