Christmas: Do it yourself gifts
There are around 20 kids in my family ages baby on up to about 12. We do a name drawing for kids only, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of gifts we could make for each of the kids. It's my last Christmas here, and I'd really like to give them each something, but I can't afford to get all of them a gift that is nice enough to be worth it! But I would love some ideas of things the kids and I could make for them...
Th fist thing that comes to mind is Playdough and you can attach a cookie cutter to it. * PLAYDOUGH * 2 cups flour 3/4 cup of salt 2 cups water 2T. Vegetable oil 1t. Cream of Tartar Food coloring Measure all ingredients into pan, cook Over medium-low heat, stirring constantly until it forms a ball. Cool, knead, have fun!
What an excellent idea! I had not thought of that idea! And I may also expand on your idea, and make one of the recipes for the dough you make ornaments out of and take it with me and let the kids make an ornament before we open gifts. The poor things, after we eat (and they do not eat much from excitement) they are ready to open, and the other family won't let them for the longest time because they are finishing up, etc. I'm always their advocate, finally going in to the "grown-ups" and moving their butts along because the kids can't stand it anymore! LOL! This would give them something to do while we wait!
One of the projects I have the kids making is snowman pavers. They simply paint the pavers white and decorate them. Here is a picture of one I saw online: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=7581994
Play doh is a great idea, I make it every week for our preschool. We make the Kool Aid version, the kids love the smell and your hands don't get covered with food coloring: 2 1/2 cups flour 1/2 cup salt 2 packages unsweetened Kool Aid 3 tablespoons oil 2 cups boiling water Mix dry ingredients. Add oil and water. Stir quickly, mixing well. When cool enough to handle, knead with hands. Store in airtight container. I make mine in the Kitchen Aid mixer with the bread hook it takes less than 5 minutes to make a batch.
