Hi Karen, What can you tell me about the Reserve Naval Base in New Orleans? My ds who is in transporation of household goods in the Marines volunteered for a permanent change of duty station to this naval base in New Orleans, well he was chosen and now he and his little family are moving in the Spring. I guess there was a need for tmo personnel he signed up and was chosen. Do you know anything about this base? How bad was the damage to the base during Katrina? Is it a very big base? I can't find much if at all as far as information goes about this base, although I am glad that they will be closer to us, as far as driving distance goes I am worried about the state that this base may still be in, not that it matters now, they "are" going no matter what! Any info would be great!

The naval base is actually in Belle Chasse, which is in an area that would get more hurricane force wind and rain. I'll get as much info as I can and get back to you.
Thanks Karen, did I mention it was a reserve base? I think that their are two naval bases in Louisana, and this was is a reserve base. thanks alot!
Yes, here is a LINK with a lot of info on the base. I don't believe the base sustained much damage at all. Here's another LINK which depicts some of the damage in the general area after Katrina, I just thought this was interesting, I took photos down there that are almost identical to some on this site. I've tried to get more info on the impact of Katrina on the base in particular, but have been unable to find anything specific.
Karen- I don't know where you found the link for the base but THANK YOU! I looked everywhere on the internet and could not find anything remotely useful. I haven't looked at the second link but I'm sure it will be interesting! Thanks again!
You're quite welcome!!
