We might be going there for Feb. vacation. Anyone ever been there? What is it like for a NON-skier who will be on her own while her family of skiers/boarders go off on their own?

By Melanie on Friday, November 2, 2007 - 04:21 pm:

Hey Colette, my sister lived in Dillon until last year. She LOVED it there. I can send her an email and see what she has to say.

Thanks Melanie, it's actually cheaper to fly all 5 of us all the way out there, rent a condo, and get lift tickets and lessons for my youngest than to drive up to Maine, rent a house and do the ski thing at Sunday River.

Wow! That's shocking!

Here is the response from my sister. Hope it helps!

Drink...just kidding!

There isn't a whole lot to do in the town of Dillon but there is lots in the surrounding area. Does she cross-country ski or snowshoe? There is a Nordic center in Frisco and lots of places to rent equipment (Frisco is on the other side of the lake from Dillon). There is outlet shopping in Silverthorne (just a few miles from Dillon); you can rent a snowmobile (I know of a place in Breckenridge); lots of great main-street shops in Breckenridge & Frisco; there are dinner sleigh rides in Keystone; there is a tubing hill in Keystone; there is a movie theater in Dillon (near King Soopers); there are day spas in the area - a couple of them are in Keystone (one at the Keystone Lodge and an Aveda spa just outside the resort on Highway 6); ice skating near Keystone (just behind the Keystone Lodge on Highway 6); there is a community center with a gym & pool in Silverthorne - I think people can pay a fee to use the facilities for the day; and last but not least there is an outdoor shooting range near the landfill in Dillon (it will likely be under snow in February).

Also tell her to check out the Summit Daily (www.summitdaily.com) to find out what is going on while she's there. This is a free local newspaper that can be found everywhere around town in the blue newspaper boxes.

Thank you so much Melanie! I do enjoy my drinks and snowshoe though, not at the same time. I will check out the sites she mentioned.

You're welcome! Let me know if there are any other questions I can send off to her. She is happy to help! :)
