I can only laugh....
With all the stuff going on with my separation and prolonged divorce settlement I can only laugh at these: I now need reading glasses. I guess at the age of 42, that shouldn't be too devastating. Today at the gyno for my annual pap there was a younger woman sitting next to me having her vitals taken. Her nurse said to her "when was your last period?"....my nurse said to me "are you STILL having your period?" Just thought I would share
Oh please! Of all people, your nurse should know a majority of women still have periods into their 50s. Was she trying to be funny?! LOL!
ROFL Annie. Don't feel bad about the reading glasses - I've worn glasses all my life for far vision, and at around 40 I started need reading glasses. At 42 I got bifocal contact lenses and glasses. :-0 The bifocal contacts were a major pain because they are *rings* of vision, not top and bottom vision like glasses are, so I gave up on them, especially because I *still* had to wear the drugstore reading glasses with the darn contacts! LOL As my eye doctor told me when *I* was your *young* age - it comes with age and will only get worse. In other words, get used to it. :-) You'd crack up if you saw my house - there is a pair of reading glasses for me in nearly every room, because I can't read labels, newspapers or the laptop screen without them. I got tired of running back and forth from one room to the other to find where I'd left them last, so I just kept picking up a pair or two here and there, and they are all over the house. :-) BTW - how are *other* things going these days??
You just gotta laugh, don't you! I've had prescription glasses since Kindergarten, and my poor dd has had bifocals since 4th grade!
Adena, that's unusual for a child to wear bifocals - in fact, you're the first person I've *met* whose child wore bifocals! Jeff was wearing them at age 15 months - yes 15 MONTHs, he wore them for 3 or 4 years. Does your DD have a particular eye condition?
Nope, no particular condition. She and I both have really bad vision, and she has worn glasses since she was in second grade, but still was having a hard time seeing words in her book and was having severe headaches. Boy, talk about a shocker when they told me she needed bifocals! They said that after a few years, her eyes may strengthen and she won't have to have the bifocals anymore, but they don't know for sure... Wow! Fifteen months! How did you ever get him used to wearing glasses and keeping them on at that age?
I have had great eyesight all my life, but now, in my forties I am one looking for my reading glasses everytime I turn around! It's feels so weird to me. So, you are not alone with the glasses.:-)
Well, Annie, the reading glasses will help you read all the fine print more thoroughly. As one who has been wearing tri-focals for about 10 years, I am somewhat mildly sympathetic but, gee, it could be worse.
Adena, it was never a problem. The stems on the glasses for kids that age are rubber coated and wrap around the backs of the ears, and the only time he took them off was when they needed to be cleaned. He was really great about wearing them, I guess because he could see. LOL At age 5 he started wearing single vision glasses, and around age 10, he didn't have to wear glasses anymore - that was after his 5th eye surgery. He will always have a lazy eye and has very bad depth perception, but his vision is actually OK now. Annie, sorry for hijacking your post!
Annie, I was the only one in my family (out of my mom, dad, and sister) who ever had to wear glasses! They used to tease me about having perfect eyes (in a fun way, it didn't bother me). Well, now, all three have to wear glasses for reading, and boy have I gotten back at them! My sister is only 36 and she has had to wear them for a few years now!
Maybe it's just me (I'm 42, too), but I would have smacked that nurse!!!! LOL!!!!
Annie, I can identify with you about the comment from the nurse. When my first 2 or 3 grandkids were born, and even when they were a little older, everytime I would take them places people would assume that they were my kids instead of grandkids and say things like"how old is your little girl/ boy?" Then one day I was out with one of the newer grandkids and someone smiled at me and said " oh ,your grandson is so cute !!" I almost cried when I told my DH about it ! He cracked up !!
