Chicken pox after the stupid vaccine
My youngest woke up this morning with what I thought was a few spider bites. Turns out I was totally wrong and she has chicken pox despite getting the vaccine, which I have heard is a pretty common thing to happen. so what do I expect now? A full blown case? They don't even itch right now. Anyone BTDT?
I've heard that when you get the chicken pox after the vaccination, you don't get them badly, sometimes just a few bumps that don't itch. So maybe this is as far as they will go.
My DS Tom had the vaccine and when he was a 18 years old, senior in high school got the chicken pox also, he only had 18 bumps and had no problem with itching. Hopefully your little one will be the same.
UGH! The vaccine wasn't out before mine had it, but I've heard of cases where kids got it, when they had had the vaccine, and like Kathy & Adena said, it should be a mild case. :-(
Just like without the vaccine, it depends on the kid. We weren't vacinated, but 1 child had very few spots, but itched like crazy, one was covered but it didn't bother him, the other was in the middle.
Our oldest ds came down with a mild case last year. It was so mild that I wouldn't have even known he had it were it not for an outbreak at the school. He had maybe 3 or 4 small spots that didn't bother him at all. I would expect her case to be very mild as well.
I hate this stupid vaccine!! I hope it's a mild case, that really stinks!!
Thanks everyone! Melanie, I am glad to see you posted, this means the fires are not affecting you? So are you watching "the game"?
My dd was vaccinated against chicken pox, but caught it anyway a few years back. It was a mild case, but still kept her out of school for a week. She did have itching and quite a few spots, but no where near what I had as a child when I had chicken pox. I hope your dd feels better soon! Crystal, I hate the vaccine too and it really irritated me that my children had to have it before they were allowed into school. My ds just received a booster of it this week. Dd was supposed to get a booster at her last appointment before school started, but I fought it because she had had the disease and in the end she was allowed to skip it. My biggest worry with it is that their titre will drop as they age and they would catch chicken pox later in life when it is more of a health concern.
My older dd had the vaccination and ended up getting a mild case. She had me count the "dots" and she only ended up woth 41. They spots never got "oozy" they were just a little itchy and went away within a few days. Not too big of a deal.
I counted last night she had 24, I noticed a few more this morning and she's running a temp.
I would guess this is probably as bad as it will get for her. Hopefully, anyway. No, the fires aren't affecting us. We are much further north. Thanks for checking, though! We've had football and baseball the past two nights, so I haven't been able to sit and watch the games. I have had them on the radio at every chance, though. When I am away from the radio, I have my sister (a Sox fan living in Colorado, LOL) call me whenever something big happens. (LOL, we were on the phone a lot Wednesday night). Go Red Sox!!!
