Anybody take this for prevention of Migraines? I just got a prescription for it today. When I got my Imitrex prescription 1 1/2 yrs ago, the dr asked me if I wanted a daily preventative. I said no at the time. It seems I am getting them more frequent. She gave me a prescription today for Topamax.It was only for one month. She said to come back for a follow up visit to see how well it was working and then we would go from there.
I have read good things about it. So we will see if it helps. Between sinus problems and migraines, my head just does not get a break.

It works very well for headaches. However, many people call it "Dope-amax" because it makes you feel like a dope! Many people experience problems with completing thoughts, coming up with words when having a conversation, forgetting things more easily, etc while on this pill. I also had to stop drinking all things carbonated because it can affect your taste. Soda, carbonated water, etc. all tasted acidy and I had to stop drinking it all until after I stopped the meds.

It can also be an appetite suppressant and many people lose weight while on the pill. A good thing for me! I would have stayed on the pill for this reason alone if I wouldn't have had difficulties with my heart rate and such while on it. Don't worry about the heart rate thing--I have a health problem that causes that, and the meds just made it harder to control.

For migraines, it worked like a charm, but some people have a difficult time with some of the side effects. But you may not have any of those side effects, so it is definitely worth a try.
