Need some deserts ideas by tomorrow

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2007: Need some deserts ideas by tomorrow
By Adilanylkoorb on Monday, October 15, 2007 - 09:54 pm:

I had meant to come here yesterday to ask this, but I forgot. I'm going to get the ingredients tomorrow whe I go shopping, so I need some ideas pretty quickly.

My preacher's MIL has been ill for the past several months and they are having a benefit in their community for her on Saturday. I volunteered to make some kind of dessert for the benefit. I need some ideas on what I should fix. It will have to be prepared Thursday afternoon, but the benefit isn't until Saturday evening. The reason for this is because my preacher and his wife live a little over an hour away and Thursday is the only day that she can come up and get the desserts (others at our church are making some things as well). So what is something that will stay fresh for a couple of days? I was thinking of some kind of cake, but don't know if it'll stay fresh. I also can't remember if it is suppose to be for the benefit (they will be serving dinner) or if it is for a bake sale type of thing. I'll ask about that when I call in a couple of days.

How about banana bread? I think that would keep nicely, from Thursday until Saturday. Try to find bananas with lots of speckles on them.

Emily and I took banana bread to our knitting group last Thursday and it almost all disappeared while we were there. We took very little of it home. I think we are going to have to make it again, because it was sooo good.

A Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake is a great thing to take, it's large and very moist, so it will stay fresh, it can even be frozen, if you have a large freezer:) I don't have the recipe on my computer, but you can do a search for the name and you will find lots of recipes, just make sure to pick one that uses buttermilk and butter, rather than milk and oil!

I swear by this Texas Sheet Cake It is to die for but you won't be able to fit into your pants if you keep it at your house. It's perfect for a potluck or large group dinner.

I have decided to go with the Texas Sheet Cake. My aunt fixed it in the past and I loved it.

Thanks for the help.

Ohhhhhh Tink! Why did you have to go and link that site????? Now I have to make it!

By Tink on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 10:11 am:

Oh, that site has been the downfall of my diet more than once. Like I said, it's a great dessert to make when you're taking it somewhere. Otherwise, it sits there, taunting you, calling out to you, saying one little bite won't hurt. It's an evil, evil cake!:)

How is that cake, Tink? It's so super thin that it seems it would be very disappointing...I'd have to take three bites at once to make it worth it!

By Kym on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 01:54 pm:

Tink that is my recipe too! What a cute site:) Kate, you are so wrong...stop what you are doing and make this cake:) You will be amazed!

I just made this cake this morning for a Halloween party, I cut the cake into "graves" and put a candied pumpkin and a miniture hershey's chocolate standin up for the headstone and wrote "RIP" and the kids names on them. They are very cute! Can be done with Brownies too!
