History project ideas needed
My 16 year old dd has to do a project for her American history class with this theme: Conflict and Compromise in History. Any ideas?
I forgot to mention, the idea has to be from something that is at least 25 years old. TIA
Why was the United Nations created and what role has it played in resolving international conflicts? Have United Nations peace-keeping missions been successful? Why or why not? Explain the ongoing problem of the resolution of disputes in the Middle East. Has outside intervention been successful in establishing peace in the area? What role has religion played in the conflicts? Has economics played a role in the inability to reach resolution or compromise?
The theme lends itself to a number of topics related to the history of the Constitution since its ratification: conflicts that led to incorporating the Bill of Rights; conflicts and compromises over constitutional guarantees of civil liberties during wartime; and new interpretations to meet the needs of industrial growth. Convention delegates had conflicts over how states should be represented in a national government and what powers states should retain or entrust to the national government.

She could write about slavery, and the Civil War, or sufferage, both created conflict within our country, and compromise stemmed from them. Also, our relationship with Cuba, because although we strongly disagree with Castro, we don't interfere much with their government. There are so many topics involving the Revolutionary War that could fit well into this theme, and as mentioned above, the drafting of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Thanks, girls. I will have her check out the websites. So far, I think she is going to go with the Bay of Pigs and Russia's involvement with Cuba, as the compromise.
Emily did a history project on Rosa Parks. I can't remember her theme, though. Conflict and compromise would work with Rosa Parks, though, too, since she decided to sit where she wanted on the bus. Then the African-American people boycotted the bus for a while, so the bus company had to compromise.
Emily's theme was "Take a Stand." It was shortly after Rosa Parks had died and I think that is why I thought of it. She titled hers, "Take a Stand, by Sitting Down."
