Isn't it just a type of tomato? I think it is. Good Luck

It looks like a green tomato with a papery skin around it. They aren't the same as a green tomato but they look similar. I don't know if your regular grocery store will carry it but if you have a Mexican store in your area, they'll be sure to have them or ask a produce clerk in your store. They are often near the chili peppers or other international produce. In this area, ALL grocery stores carry them but I think that's just due to our population.

It's a type of tomato, a small, green one, that is covered by a green pod. It has more of a sour taste to it. I've seen it used in Mexican recipes mainly as a sauce.

Thank you! I substituted cans of diced petite tomatoes, LOL. It was delicious so it all worked out. Some of you may already make this, but it was new to me so I'll share:

Mexican Casserole
Prep:10min. Total Time: 1hr.15min.
Yield: 8 servings

3c. coarsely chopped tortilla chips
3 c. diced cooked chicken
3/4c.finely chopped onions
2 (11oz) cans tomatillos, drained and chopped (I used a can and a half of diced petite tomatoes)
1/2t. cumin
1 garlic clove,minced
1c. fat free sour cream
2c. shredded Colby-Jack cheese blend
2 4.5oz cans chopped green chiles
1/2c. chunky salsa-optional

Spray 9x13 with non-stick cooking spray. Place 2c. tortilla chips in bottom. Layer chicken over chips. In med. bowl, combine onions, tomatillos, chiles, cumin, and garlic - mix well. Spread onion mixture over chicken. Drop teaspoons of sour cream over onion mixture. Sprinkle with cheese. Cover with foil and bake @ 350 for 30 min. Uncover; sprinkle with remaining 1c. tortilla chips. Bake uncovered an additional 20-25min. or until heated through. Serve with salsa if desired.

I recommend letting it stand for a few minutes after removing from the oven so it can thicken up a bit before serving. Just makes serving easier.
