Digital cameras
I'm looking to buy another digital, after losing my Nikon, and was wondering what you guys suggest. I want one with good speed while flash is activated, so far the Canon SD700 is looking pretty good. I love my Canon G2, but the size makes it useless for everyday snapshots. So, what cameras do you love, and what cameras would you rather throw into a lake?
Crystal, I just bought a Vivitar and it's good for a first camera, but I noticed that it doesn't have good speed. My next camera might be a Fugi (sp?). My friend has one and I am really impressed with it.
We just went through 2 Canons (bought and returned within a month each) - I wish I could tell you which ones! They were in the $250 range I know that. Both took excellent video and sound and poor photos. Others will disagree I'm sure, but we will never buy another Canon. Every photo had "thumbprint" corners and terrible flash, and that was on 2 different Canon cameras. Next we bought an Olympus Stylus - very bright photos although sometimes blurry, terrible video, and LOW battery life. Like ridiculously low. Ended up and are very happy with a Sony Cybershot 7.2mp DSC-W80. It is the perfect point and shoot and has excellent video with 3 quality options. It's small but not hard to handle and shoots quickly. The battery life is great, too. Good luck making a choice! Like I said, we went through 3 within a month or so before we landed one. I was amazed at the problems we encountered with the others, especially since we were coming off of a 4 year old 5mp Kodak which was easier to use and more consistently took better pics than the other three "new" ones. All that rambling to say we love the Sony Cybershot!
I have a Fuji FinePix S5200 that is not as tiny as some of the others, but very lightweight, has good zoom, and speed. My nephew used it to take pictures at my son's wedding reception, and they were incredible!
I have a Casio EXS-600 and highly recommend it. I got it for Christmas and gave my husband a hard time for buying an "off brand" camera. But it takes excellent pictures and the flash is almost instant. No delays like I had with our Olympus digital. The camera store where he bought recommended it.
LOVE LOVE LOVE my Nikon.
Thanks everyone!! The other one I was looking at was the Sony W80, I don't like Sony as a brand, but it got good reviews. Deanna, do you find the controls hard to use? That was the number one complaint about it. I loved my Nikon for outdoor shots, it took beautiful pics in Hawaii, but it's painfully slow with the flash on. Sandy, I personally won't buy a Fuji, I've been unimpressed with the ones I've used. I had a Vivitar too, but the lens got stuck out.
Crystal - I really like the Sony controls - super easy to find your way around. I think the Sony controls are WAAAAAY easier than Canon. I needed the book everytime I wanted to do something different on the Canon. It had a million menus that aren't easy to find.
