Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2007: Help W/Birthday Invite
By Dandjmom on Friday, August 31, 2007 - 02:22 pm:

I'm having a skate party for my ds 4th birthday.

The theme will be pirates, the kids ( 2 girls only) will have pirates hats to wear. But I wanted help with the invite. I know that pirates walk the plank.

I've come up with:
Come skate the rink with (ds name)
Aww skate the rink matey

See I'm no good at this, help please?

Oh and by the way the gift boxes are actual small metal treasure chests filled with pirate theme toys, gold wrapped coins.

I'm terrible at this also but think:

skate/
mate
pleasure/
treasure

Jeez, I told you I was bad. I know you'll get much better responses than mine lol

Here is what I did for our pirate party:
http://www.momsview.com/discus/messages/41/45970.html

The invitations I made were scrolls in a glass bottle. Maybe you can adapt what I wrote:

The invitation said:
Ahoy Matey! Stop yer pillaging; lend me yer ear
I have a message for ye to hear!
The treasures been stolen. It must be found.
So tighten ye sashes Buccaneer Bay Bound!
Shiver me timbers, thar's a magic pirate on board.
Drinkin shark's blood, and flailin his sword.
Bring yer swim gear, it gonna be wet.
Ye be walkin the plank on this ye can bet!
I'm Captain Jewel Theif Jessica and will lead the way.
On September 2nd, I turn 12 that day!
We be settin sail at 1:00 PM
fer some swashbucklin fun.
We have 'till 5:00 PM to complete our mission.

LOVE Kaye and Yvonne's ideas - I'm very impressed, too!! Those are both cool!

By Kaye on Friday, August 31, 2007 - 09:58 pm:

I did a search online and the adapted it a bit...far from original, I love the internet!

By Dawnk777 on Friday, August 31, 2007 - 10:10 pm:

Wow! You guys are good! I'm so not creative, when it comes to things like that! However the trip to the water park sounds fun!

By Yjja123 on Friday, August 31, 2007 - 10:43 pm:

I missed the water park thing?

We also did pirate foods.
I wrapped crescent rolls over sausages they were called "pirate toes"
The Hawaiian Punch was called "Belly wash"
Gummy worms were called "pirate guts"

We had a treasure hunt.
You can find a ton of pirate goodies from Oriental trading company.
Have fun!

Buccaneer Bay
Bring yer swim gear, it gonna be wet.

Buccaneer Bay isn't a water park? I just thought you were talking about a water park.

By Yjja123 on Saturday, September 1, 2007 - 12:41 pm:

OH :) We named our back yard
It was a pool party/treasure hunt.
We made the kids walk the plank (hubby built a plank to go across the pool).

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, September 2, 2007 - 09:46 am:

Oh okay. See, the local indoor waterpark here, is called Breaker Bay, so Buccaneer Bay just sounded "water-parky" to me! LOL! It really meant your backyard? That's cute!

By Yjja123 on Sunday, September 2, 2007 - 11:23 am:

Yeah we had a warning sign on the door saying "Enter Buccaneer Bay at yer own risk". It had a skull and cross bones.

By Yjja123 on Sunday, September 2, 2007 - 11:35 am:

Back to Dandjmom...did you decide on an invitation? What did you go with?
When is the party?
I hope everyone has a great time!

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, September 2, 2007 - 07:02 pm:

Yvonne, you are so creative!

By Dandjmom on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 - 03:33 pm:

Wow! thanks Kaye and Yjja,

I like them all, so now I have to find a way to combine all of them I'll use the scroll idea from Yjja and some of your's also Kaye. Thank you for the help.

Wanna do my Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner/party invites?

By Yjja123 on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 - 04:31 pm:

I am a big Starbucks drinker (the premixed coffees) so I used those bottles for the scroll invitations. I dipped the cap in glue and added sand and tiny shells to it.

I already mailed out my Thanksgiving invitations :)

By Dandjmom on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 - 03:31 pm:

Yvonne,
My son's birthday party isn't until December 15th. I like to get things out of the way, with my birthday this weekend and then my daugther's on 10/3, my mother's 10/4 and the holidays are just around the corner. I like to have things in place. I'm going to finish up a few kids on my Christmas list this weekend.

By Yjja123 on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 - 04:13 pm:

You are a woman after my own heart :)
I am 99% done with my Christmas shopping (ordered a few things from Amazon that are on back order-- when they arrrive I will be 100% done).
I am now making gifts for hubby's co-workers and for the extras we give out. I have approx. 50 ornaments to make, 48 candles, and 12 fused glass pendants.
I like to plan early so the holidays are stress-free.
I mail out my Thanksgiving invitations early because the in-laws have to book hotel reservations. If they do not book now, they likely will not get the hotel they want (we learned this the hard way).
Christmas is our own holiday (meaning we do not celebrate with extended family) so no invitations there.
We used scrapbook papers and waxed fall leaves on the Thanksgiving invitations. My daughter loves making cards, so we generally work on invitations as a family.
