Help, i'm pretty sure my favorite dress is ruined.
I bought this sundress in the spring and wore it a few times. I decided to wash it and followed the directions on the tags, and hung it to dry. I guess I didn't really look at it when I got it out of the wash because when I got it out of the closet yesterday I noticed that the green had bled into the white!!! I'm so upset, I LOVED this dress! I don't know what to do. I'm not sure if I still have the receipt. I got it probably in March or April, from JCPenney. Doe anyone think I can get it out, or is it a lost cause? I guess the good news is that if I want another one I can get it for $39.99, LOL but i'm not going to get it again if it's going to do that when I wash it.
I had this happen to a dress and when I re-washed it the color came out. Try washing it again.
I'm afraid! Maybe I will try that, it's not like I'm going to wear it at this point anyway. thanks
Yeah, try washing it again. If that doesn't work, take a bleach gel pen and "erase" the green then carefully wash out the bleach without it touching where the green is supposed to be. This has worked for me in the past. Like you said, you have nothing to lose if you're not going to wear it again anyway. Beautiful dress! I'd be upset, too!
Well, i tried some diluted bleach. It yellowed the fabric, but then I washed it and it just came out ruined. The bleach ran onto the green which turned the green yellow. I just threw it out. I'm so sad
Bummer.
I was going to suggest using Resolve - it's carpet stain remover, but I use it on clothes, and it works great. Sorry your dress was ruined and you trashed it. Can you get it out of the trash and try the Resolve on the white part of the fabric? It's worth a shot.
IF you really love it that much buy another and save the receipt. I would also take it to the cleaners and have them clean it for you.
Yes, next time I get a dress like that I will just take it to the cleaners. I tried Spot Shot which is a carpet cleaner, I saw that suggestion online, but it didn't work. Oh well. When things like this happen I always try to remind myself that there are much worse things that can happen! It's still a bummer though. thanks for all your suggestions.
Ditto Andi. I've brought some items to the cleaners even though they are supposed to be washable. Your dress is bright, vivid color on white, and maybe that's one that would have fared better at the cleaners. It's too late for that now. :-( And ditto Andi, if you like it that much and think you'll get enough wear out of it, buy another one! That's what *I'd* do. LOL It's on sale now, right? I just purchased something on eBay that is 100% cotton. It's a James Perse *cardigan*, very long, very light weight, bought it for our upcoming cruise. I own several other JP pieces thanks to eBay and wash them all, but the tag on this one says dry clean only. Rather than risk ruining it, I will probably dry clean it. It sells for $188 in stores (RIDICULOUS price, IMO!), and I got it for $15, not a lot of money, but I don't want to ruin it.
Since it is on sale, and you love it so much, I would buy another one. And ditto the dry cleaning. Anytime I have something nice, that is a combination of white and bright colors, I have it dry cleaned.
