SIMPLE diabetic recipes needed
After going thru the stages of anger, disbelief and denial, I am finally ready to better charge of the things that I eat. Does anyone have any good recipes? I need to keep it simple and inexpensive, without a lot of extra's due to " not very much money !" I'm trying to fix things that DH will eat, also, as he is on the borderline himself. But he doesn't like fish or chicken !! So, any ideas ? And, TIA
OOPS...that's supposed to say TAKE better charge...
Here is a great site: http://www.recipesecrets.net/forums/ Maybe someone can post it so it links directly? This is a GI site (Glycemic Index), note not all recipes are healthy but there is a section specific to Diabetes. Good luck!
I'm high risk for developing diabetes and watch what I eat. I went to a diabetic educator and a dietician when I had gestational diabetes. They taught me how to count my carbs. I don't have any special diabetic cook books or recipes. I eat the same foods but watch my carbohydrate intake.
I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes about 18 months ago. I searched for recipes, and became frustrated, 1) because I HATE to cook, and 2) you just need to use common sense. White carbs should be avoided - white bread, white rice, white potatos, sugar, etc. Your *good* carbs can be found in fruits, vegies and whole grain breads and cereals. Basically, everything in moderation is the key. Fresh vegies are better than canned vegies. Lean meat is obviously better for you than fatty beef or anything fried. Thank ya'll all so much ! I'm actually very proud of myself , for a change . I have been doing so good. It's like something inside of me just said" Wanda, it's TIME to start taking this thing serious!" I have a peace about this, if that makes sense ! I have lost several pounds ,already, and THAT feels great.I mean, I really feel the difference.I can move around so much better.I also have fibromyalgia, so I have an enormous amount of stiffness and pain with it. And my left knee has been horribly painful for some time now.And now, its' almost perfectly well. And the stiffness and pain is much better. I also am taking MSM,and that is helping, too. Thanks again for the web sites. And, Karen, tonight I cut open a fresh pineapple...oh, my gosh !! It was wonderful!!! Soooooo much better than from a can .Even my DH said so.
