Perseid Meteor Shower
Don't forget this show this weekend! We're going to go out tonight and see if we see anything, but tomorrow night is supposed to be the peak.
A few years ago. We went to the Yorktown battlefield about 3:00 a.m. away from all ground lights. We spread out a blanket, and watched the Leonoid meteor shower. It was fantastic. That shower is later at night, so we watched until dawn, and then went to breakfast at I-Hop afterwards. If it's clear tomorrow night, we plan to go to Yorktown again.
Sarah and I will try to watch them somewhere, but it's nearly impossible to get away from city lights! I know we drove out to the country one year and it seemed that even out there, there were some lights.
My dd and dh are out on our front lawn watching now. I was just out there with them and saw a few. Poor Lara, I say "Look, honey there's one!" and by the time I get that out, it's gone. She's just having fun snuggling on the lawn in a blanket and I'm thinking we should do this more often! Did you see any, Adena?
Not Adena, but I went out last night, and again tonight, to watch the shower. We can't see much here, because of the light pollution from town and the post, so we went to a nearby lake/dam/park area. Last night had better visibility (we were out around 0230), but tonight had better trails on the meteors. It's really amazing, I can't wait until the kids are older so they can come out, too.
Sarah and I didn't see any, but we were in the city. I know if we'd gone out to the country somewhere, we probably would have seen more, but it seems crazy to be standing on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere.
It seems like every time we have something like this going on, there is cloud cover. I went out two different times last night and I couldn't see a thing.
We went to the Yorktown Battlefield around 2:00 a.m. and watched until 5, when the clouds rolled in. It was wonderful
Sandy, did you get away from light pollution? Last night it looked like there was cloud cover, but when I got out to the lake area it was perfect. The showers are supposed to continue for a while, but this weekend was extra visible because of the new moon.
Total eclipse of the moon Aug. 28th http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov:80/eclipse/LEmono/TLE2007Aug28/TLE2007Aug28.html
Cool. The kids and I wil have to watch! Lunar Elipse
Can someone please clarify, I'm in KS, so when is the eclipse? The charts I looked up didn't make sense! Is it the night of the 27th, into the 28th, or the night of the 28th into the 29th? We'll be at a concert on the 28th, that would be a killer addition to our night!!!
Eclipse times - central time zone So, for Crystal in Kansas and me in WI, in central time, the total eclipse would be at 4:52am. Ugh. Then I would sent my alarm for shortly before 5am on Tuesday Aug 28th, so I can see totality and a little bit of it coming out of totality and go back to bed. At the bottom of the page, that Bea gave us, there are links to other time zones, so you can be sure what time yours is. Crystal, I'm understanding it to be 27th going into 28th.
Thanks Dawn, I've been wondering for about a week, I just could NOT find the right information! Well, we took off work on Tuesday for the concert, so I guess I can handle getting up/staying up to see the eclipse!! Now I just have to worry about getting through Wednesday!!
Crystal, it definitely was cloud cover because when it's not cloud covered, the stars look so bright from my back yard. I was so bummed.
