Doing a happy dance!
I got a jury summons in the mail for superior court today. DH was laughing at me when I realized, "Hey, I'm not an American citizen so I'm not required to do this, right?" I looked on the form and sure enough being a non US citizen is a disqualification. Woo Hoo!! All I have to do is check off that I'm not a citizen, provide my alien #, sign the form and drop it in the mail. YES, for once I'm glad I've been procrastinating on filling out my citizenship papers! LOL!
There you go! LOL!
I always HATE it when I see those envelopes in the mail! I think many of us do. However, some really hope to be picked/enjoy being picked for Jury Duty. I, for one, don't want it. I get called every 2 years religiously, and so far, I have not been picked. The last time I was called, I actually used a medical to get out of it. And before I get blasted, yes, it was legitimate. This was to be a 7-10 day trial, I was having a lot of problems with my neck/back disks, etc. at the time, had the medical documention to prove it, and both attorneys agreed to dismiss me.
We have a neighbor who is a lawyer. I've never liked him very much. I was on jury duty, and was chosen from the pool for a murder trial. I wasn't looking forward to it. They are usually long, and some juries get sequestered. We were seated in the jury box, when I noticed my neighbor seated with the man on trial. When the judge asked if we, the jury, had any connections with the defendant, any witnesses, or the lawyers, I was thrilled to raise my hand and claim my DEAR NEIGHBOR. LOL
Lucky you, Bea!
Stephen got a summons a few weeks ago, and was supposed to report last week. He got a call a few days before hand, to let him know they had settled out of court. Lucky him!
I got my first summons ever last week for jury duty in September. I'm not all that thrilled about it. My mom is one of those people who thinks it's fun.
Actually, I think it would be interesting to take part in. It's just that the superior court is 45 minutes away and they wanted me there on a week day morning at 8:00 a.m.. For how many days, who knows? It would be a PITB to work out childcare.
Trina, I had that worry every time I got called, when the kids were young. They don't care. LOL If you get picked, it's YOUR problem.
I know, that's why I'm GLAD I don't have to worry about it. LOL!
I've gotten out of it every time due to childcare issues. A simple letter has done the trick. So glad you managed to get out of it and not have to deal with it! I agree with you...it would be interesting and I will certainly do it when I can. But for now, I am happy to know I can get out of it.
Trina, where are you from? I never knew you weren't a US citizen.
We were fairly new to living in Sheboygan, 13-14 years ago. We had just moved here from central WI. In central WI, but not the city where I lived, a young girl was killed. I don't remember much of the details anymore. Anyway, in Sheboygan, I get called for Jury duty and it's about a month's period of time, you have to be sort of "on-call". Most of the trials settle and you never have to go in for one. Anyway, I get a letter about a jury that will be up in Wausau (near where I used to live), it would be sequestered, for up to 3 weeks. Yikes! Kids were still little. I was a SAHM, at the time and Gary would have to scramble to have found childcare. Ugh. So, we wrote a letter that being sequestered for 3 weeks would place an undue hardship on our family. I get excused. Phew. The insanity trial in all reality, only lasted about 3 days and I can't remember the verdict anymore. I think they would have excused me anyway, because I USED to live in central WI and I was very aware of the particular case. They were trying to get a jury from Sheboygan, for the Wausau trial to get people who hadn't heard of it, or were less aware. They didn't know that in their potential jury trial was a former resident of the group they were trying to avoid. LOL!
