MIL called at 4AM
She wanted dh to go get her and take her to emergency. She has been having pains in her stomach and her back. She is worried that it has to do with her kidneys. He probably isn't there yet. It takes at least 45 minutes to get to her place from ours, but I was wondering if you all could say a little prayer for her. Thanks.
Oh, Lisa, how worrying. Yes, I will keep her in my prayers.
Please let us know how she is. Prayers heading your way!
Sending prayers. Please update us, when you can.
Your mil will be in my thoughts and prayers. Do you have an update? Let us know how she is when you have a moment.
I hope she will be okay Lisa....
Hubby called and said that she has a UTI. That would explain all the pain she was in. I don't know any more than that. Thank you all so much for your prayers and good thoughts!
Those are painful enough! Hope she is better soon.
I am so glad. As bad as a UTI can be, antibiotics will take care of it and no permanent damage. Your poor MIL - and your poor dh having to sit anxiously in the waiting room for so long. I'll bet your MIL was having symptoms and problems for a while and decided they weren't worth going to the doctor about. I hope she learns from this painful experience.
Hope she's going to be okay, Lisa.
How Scary. THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.
Yes, she does NOT like to go to the doctor and she doesn't complain about being in pain very often. So when she calls in the middle of the night and wants to go to ER I was really concerned. I didn't think to ask her about pain when urinating because I know she also has a lot of bowel issues so I thought it might have had more to do with that. And she only drinks water- most other drinks like pop, coffee or tea will irritate her stomach. Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers!
There may be a bigger problem. She lives in an apartment complex that is government subsidized. They haven't been doing a good job of maintaining the buildings. They haven't even been able to keep a property manager. She said that her water has started tasting funny and they haven't done maintenance on the pipes lately. If she comes down with another case of UTI, we will have to address this with the proper authorities. How would I go about getting her water tested? She said that she'd start buying bottled water if she had to, but she drinks a lot of water. It's about all she drinks anymore. She doesn't like to stir things up even if she'd be justified. Maybe she's a little afraid of backlash. She doesn't want to be put on anyone's black list. And she doesn't want to have to find another place to live. But for crying out loud, if it's her tap water that's the problem, then she's better off not living there at all.
Start with calling the county Office of Aging, and ask them which department is responsible for inspecting rental properties. Tell them your MIL's complaints and worries about the maintenance of the building and the safety of the water. If there is a Dept. of Health, they would probably test the water if there is a complaint.
MIL called me today with some alarming news. When she went to the ER they took blood and sent it in for tests. They got the results back today and it appears that her liver is failing. Now, this lady is on 5 prescription meds. An anti-depressant, an anti-psychotic, a drug that counteracts a side affect of her anti-psychotic, and one for high blood pressure and another for high cholesterol. The first three are ones that she has been on for years with no problems. The last two have been added within the past year. She said that her doctor thinks that it is the cholesterol med that is affecting her liver function. She goes in for more tests next week. I am more than a little concerned now.
Any meds can and will affect your liver, but cholesterol meds are notorious for causing liver damage. Taking her off of them, or changing the meds she is on, might solve that problem, or at least help it. But you say her liver is *failing* - sounds like it's more than elevated liver enzymes. I am on a number of meds, and in January, my liver enzymes were elevated. We changed out one of my meds, and they returned to normal. If her liver is truly failing, it may be something else altogether. Let us know what you find out.
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
