Long distance baby shower?
Has anyone ever "hosted" one of these? It seems I've hear do them but don't know details. My SIL is 4 months pregnant (first baby) and currently lives in CA with DH's brother, a Major in Army SF. They move about every 2 years, and will be moving again right after the baby is born. They have friends and family all over, but no one nearby. We were thinking of trying to have some kind of a long-distance baby shower for them in a few months. Any ideas? Do you just send out invites and info, and then direct people to ship their gifts? I was thinking maybe including a note with invites for the "guests" to send a "new Mommy Tip" notecard...maybe just an idea or two that a veteran mommy learned to be helpful and could share. BIL & SIL are both in their late 30's and are extremely nervous about being parents. ANY ideas/suggestions would be appreciated!
This was done for me once and everyone met in a chat room while I opened the gifts. There were even online baby shower games to play. Is there a fairly private chat room you know of that you can use to do it this way??
You could do this... We have the Christmas thing here every year. And I have been part of Christmas and Birthday exchanges over the internet before... You need to decide how much time you want to put into it.. and how involved you want it to be. I have always had great fun...
I think it's a really great idea. We moved to TX when I was about 5 months pg, and I never had a baby shower because we didn't know anyone at our new post, and our families were back East. A Mommy tip is a cute idea, and you could even use a chat room to "meet", kind of like we do with the Secret Santa on MV. Have fun!!
What a great idea!!! My cousin and friend did one for us and I couldn't have been more grateful, especially since we were so transient in the army and didn't have the help of any family when Connor was born. The idea of "mommy advice" is great too. You could also include "daddy advice" as well? Good luck and let us know how it goes!!!
