Moms of Scouts (Eagle Scout question)
We've been invited to a Court of Honor for a young friend of ours who just got his Eagle Scout a few weeks ago. I need to know if it's customary to bring a gift. I know a few kids that have gotten their Eagle Scout, but we've never been invited to the Court of Honor before so I have no clue. His mom said it's just a big party to celebrate his achievment. So gift or no gift? Is so, how much to spend on it? Thoughts or suggestions??? TIA
My son is a boyscout. We have gone to a court of honor, but never saw any gifts. Maybe there was some, but never saw anybody walk in with anything.
Becoming an Eagle Scout is quite an achievement. But no, I wouldn't take any gifts to the Court of Honor. If you are close friends with the boy and his family, I would think about getting some Scout related gift (his mom could advise you) to give to him or send to him privately. That way you won't embarrass other people who haven't brought gifts.
Thanx. I guess we'll just go celebrate with him!
My Mike just had his Court of Honour in April. He was the last in his troop, for a while, to make Eagle, so we have been to several Courts of Honour in the past couple years. I have always put twenty dollars in a card. When Mike had his, we requested on the invitation, that, in lieu of gifts, that our guests bring a non-perishable food item for the local food bank. Well, we had a huge Rubbermaid tote overflowing with food, but people brought him gifts anyway. He got money, and a few people gave him Eagle Scout items. Our pastor gave him an Eagle Scout paper weight (the pastor is also an Eagle, and gave the opening and closing prayers). There is a catalogue online where you can purchase items.
