End of school
We get out so late this year - June 14th. It was supposed to be June 13th, until we had the second day off, for the cold weather, way back in February. I really think we could have gone to school that day. I think we have gone to school on similarly cold days and had no problem. Anyway, we were got out June 9th, and went on vacation June 10th. In fact a year ago today, we were going to be seeing Laura Ingalls Wilder's homestead, glancing at the Corn Palace in Mitchell and heading off to western South Dakota for the rest of our trip. I think it really stinks that we are still in school. I keep thinking I can plan the day because no one has school and then I remember Emily has school and I still have to work my lunch job. I tell you Thursday cannot come quick enough. I feel like I'm already in summer vacation mode and it's STILL not here yet! I really liked the school year when we started the last week of August and got out much earlier in June! Good grief, the Sheboygan kids will get out of school on Thursday and the 4th of July is only 2 weeks away! I feel like we are getting gypped out of summer. I suppose it doesn't help that we've had some beautiful weather the last few days and that makes it harder to go to school for Emily and me! Sarah, the lucky pup, is already done! Seniors are always done early. Okay, done whining now.
My kids dont get done until This Thursday as well. We leave for Florida on Saturday.
My kids don't get out until June 21st. It's normal to get out mid June. Two years ago they didn't get out until the very end of June because we had so many snow days to make up. That year we certainly felt gypped out of our summer vacation. LOL!
We started school aug 10. So we got gypped of our summer last year. However tx has adopted a new law, we cannot start earlier than the 4th monday in august. So that means we get over 3 months break this summer...very sweet! We will go into june this next year though.
We've been out of school for 2 weeks now. My kids are getting a really long summer because they got out of school in May and they won't start school in WI until after Labor Day. School here in LA starts August 10. They think it is going to be so funny to still be here and all their friends are in school and they are not.
WOW, school was out on May 25 here!
We had to go over because of bad weather days. Bad thing, days they shouldn't have been in school they had school and days they could have gone they called off.. Then the big storms hit and it put us over our snow days limit... They need to set up a check list of reasons to call off school because I am pretty sure the Super in our district has no clue... We are pushed in snow days every year but this is the first year we have had to make up days in the 14 years Callie was in school. Hello, we live in Ohio, if you don't like the weather wait a minute it will change, is a going joke around here... My kids have been out since the 1st of June and honestly I don't know when they go back to school... LOL Guess I better check into that.. This year it was August 21st.. Too soon in some cases but too far away in others... LOL
When I was teaching, I couldn't wait for the end of school. Now that I rely on school to provide "me" time I am dreading it! Helen's preschool ends tomorrow, Randy finishes K next week! What am I going to do all summer with no school? . --- Secretly, I am looking forward to not having to have the two of them our of the house before nine am every day. That will be a plus. I am also going to get one of my baby sitters to come in a few afternoons a week and play with them so I can get stuff done. Ame
Our kids got out on Friday and we have been having a blast since! Yesterday we went with a huge group to Great America and today we are off to the beach. Gotta love summer vacation!
Emily will start back to school on September 4th. We drop Sarah off at the university on September 2nd, but her first day of classes isn't until September 5th. They end up early December and don't go back until February. Most kids end up taking an interim class, in that 2 month period, to get farther along in the education.
We got out May 25th as well. We start right after Labor Day. However, our "Spring Break" is half day of Good Friday and Easter Monday. That's it. Our "Christmas Vacation" is half day of the 23rd to Jan 3rd. Not a lot of days off during the year, just a great SUMMER. We are a farming community so people are picking rock, and spraying right after school. Almost all of the kids help and actually look forward to being old enough to do so. That may play a role in our calendar.
We get out Thursday too.
Last Friday was our last day. We're loving the time to sleep in, stay up late, grill outside at 8pm, swim at 9am, just do whatever we want. I think I was looking forward to summer vacation more than the kids were! I have a two page list of things to do when the dks get bored this summer to try and eliminate "the crankies", although I'm not one to think being bored is a bad thing. We'll go back on August 24th.
My kids are in school until June 28. Nicole graduates from grade 8 on the 27th, so she gets one extra day.
Randy got out a little over two weeks ago, and he's in his second week of summer school (four weeks total). He'll start back August 6th. Robin's school ended last Friday, but he's still working (online school is available year round, but teachers are only available during the school year). He's supposed to start back up sometime the end of August, but we'll start early so I can keep him on the same schedule as our local public school.
Tink, I would love to have a look at that list, would you mind sharing a few items?
Syd has a early release day on Monday and then she's done. We were supposed to be out on the 14th, but because of snow days, we're running late. I can't wait!
Goodness, I just presumed all the kids were out by this time. That's a long time to wait, isn't it Dawn? Here's hoping Thursday will come quickly! Hopefully it's a half day and you won't have to work the lunch hour.(?)
2 more 1/2 days and I will no longer be a bus driver, YES!!!!! Don't get me wrong I have great kids but I'm so very tired of driving a bus. I can't wait for school to be out.
Chai~latte, I'll start a new thread and see if others will chime in with other ideas.
Emily will start back to school on September 4th. We drop Sarah off at the university on September 2nd, but her first day of classes isn't until September 5th. They end up early December and don't go back until February. Most kids end up taking an interim class, in that 2 month period, to get farther along in the education. Dawn, UWSP is on the same schedule. My job does start 8/20 because I have new faculty orientation, plus preparation for the semester, but I can't wait to have the schedule of a professor. It will be sweet!
You sound so excited, Pam! I'm excited for Sarah, too, but it will be weird being down to one kid, around here!
Emily has exams right now and didn't have to be at school today, until 9:45, so it almost felt like summer today, since we could sleep in a little bit. We all got up and went out to breakfast, as a family, before taking her to school today. What a luxury! So, she goes from 9:45 to 1:45 today and 8:00 to 11:20 tomorrow. The kids at the school where I work, are spending their whole day at a park today. I'm missing it, though, since I have to go to the doctor, for a physical. I will be there to say good-bye tomorrow, though.
