Do You Wash New Clothes Before Wearing Them?
The topic of the contaminated toothpaste made me think of another topic. With almost all of our clothes, even the "good" labels like LL Bean and Lands End outsourcing their manufacture of clothing, our clothes come from all over the world. (Proof is that most women's clothes today are designed for a slender Asian woman and not the full-figured American woman). Do you wash everything before you wear it? I do because I am always afraid of chemicals on the clothes mixing with perspiration. I have always washed undies before wearing, and my children's clothes when they were little, but now I wash everything before wearing or use, such as bed linens and towels, too. Does anyone else feel this way?
I just wash before wearing because of softness. I have a friend though whose son has had 2 skin rashes from wearing new clothes that have not been washed. She washes the new item and then no more problems.
I always wash new clothes before wearing them. Sheets and towels, too. I read an article a long time ago about the chemicals used during the manufacturing process. We all have sensitive skin, so I figure it's better safe than sorry.
When the kids were babies, all new clothes got washed first for the first yr. Now, we do wash all new sheets first, and all undies. I dont wash other things. My husband likes his new clothes washed first.
I wash everything before I use/wear it. EVERYthing.
My scrub tops that I wear to work, I wash before wearing, because they are hard and scratchy, if I don't and they feel much better, if I wash them first. I recently bought some capris and they were sooooo dark, that I washed them first, so I wouldn't turn blue! Sheets I wash, because they smell funny, otherwise. We just got Sarah a comforter, sheets and a mattress pad, to take to her dorm room. Now, I'm thinking we should wash them, before she goes to college.
I wash everything before using and or wearing.
Ditto on everything....
We wash everything too... Mostly because you don't know who tried things on before you did and you don't know what they used on the fabric to treat it.. Better safe then sorry.
I always washed baby clothes before the baby wore them but I don't wash any of my clothes or the kids clothes now that they are grown before wearing.
I get a rash if I wear new clothes w/o washing them especially if it has any kind of red dye in it. So just to be on the safe side I wash and dry in the dryer.
I wash everything before we wear it. My DH tried on a paper of swim trunks a couple of years ago at a store. As he was starting to put them on, he looked down & it was OBVIOUS they had been worn before and were not NEW! I'll leave it at that, but it was gross. So, after that, especially, everything is washed before anyone puts anything on.
I started washing new things before wearing them when I was pregnant the first time and my skin became very sensitive. Now all five of us have skin issues and it's easier to just wash everything to get rid of any extra chemicals.
DH likes new shirts washed, before he wears them. I suppose we wash most stuff, before we wear it, but not all of it.
Not usually. DH does like his work clothes washed before he wears them though. They are pretty stiff when we get them. When the kids were babies, I usually washed most of their clothes before they wore them.
Only did that for my first born for about a month. Never again, especially since the doc said it was ok not to. lol I often break out new clothes when I've forgotten to do laundry and there's nothing clean to wear. Ame
I'm with you Ame, I sometimes have to wear new clothes before washing because I have nothing else to wear. Or because I am excited about a actually buying something for myself so I wanna wear it right away!
Not usually. I tend to buy new clothes only when I'm forced to because of last minute needs (otherwise I come home with books or computer parts ). Even if I did buy them before I needed them I doubt I'd be on the ball enough to wash them. I'm just too lazy for that.
I am always excited to have something new because I don't have to wash it. Laundry is something I struggle with. We only have 5 in our family, but it adds up to a lot of laundry. I alway say we are wearing around a load of laundry at any given time. Not to mention the 3 other outfits the kids got dirty earlier. We are done at 3 kids, but I wouldn't have any more soley based on laudry I have done something that has helped a lot. We have a huge master closet and I started this when we frst moved in so I never got used to having it for just my husband I. I have our whole family's clothes in our closet, some people have the Family Bed, we have The Family Closet. Our kids are 5 and under so we dress them anyway. I found myself going to each room to get clothes and then bringing them in my room to dressed. The other part is that I can do laudry and put them all away during nap or bed time, rather than stacking them outside their doors and waiting till they are awake. It has helped me. I am even planning on moving the Washer and Dryer in there.
Joyel, I have felt that way, even for a family of 4. I have one less child, but always felt that I had enough laundry responsibilities to deal with. As I'm putting Shout, on the stains, when my kids were younger, I remember thinking, "I'm glad I only have 2 kids to deal with!" LOL!
I also wash everything before we wear it.
We also wash everything before it is worn.I do a load of laundry a night and all the bedding on week-ends.I'm not overwhelmed yet with laundry but the clothes are still small lol.I've colour coded my laundry baskets so if I need something I know where it would be.Actually since I've had triplets everything is colour coded lol
I do, because I've gotten ringworm from a shelf bra in a tank top. Not fun!!
