So frustrated

I guess that comes with having kids, right?

My oldest got lazy this school year and is in danger of failing English class for the year. It wouldn't bother me nearly as much if he was in any other grade, but he is a senior this year and needs the English credit to graduate! He readily admits that he didn't do the work and is now scrambling to make it up. He is very intelligent (too smart for his own good) and has in the past been able to catch up so late in the year and pass, but now we are getting down to the last few weeks of school and I still don't know if he will be able to graduate. I know that if he does fail the class he can make it up in summer school and get his diploma then, but I'd hate for him to miss out on the actual commencment (especially when I found out that the governor of our state will be at the graduation!)

The most frustrating thing is that he is not nearly as worried or concerned as I am. He's told me more than once this year that he hates high school and his diploma is just a piece of paper to him. We've gone round and round about it many times, but I would think he would want to pass to be done with school once and for all! He knows that I would be disappointed if he doesn't graduate and seems to really be trying. I am keeping my fingers crossed and praying that he can pull it off!

I hope he gets all the work done. My kids work hard with schoolwork, because they want the A's!

Sarah is bored, because she isn't really doing much in any of her classes, anymore. She has a study hall, but isn't getting any homework to do, in that study hall, so she's been reading library books and doing crossword puzzles. Only 7 more days of school for her, anyway.

I feel your pain! lol My 6th grader is taking two summer school classes (science and social studies) to go on to 7th grade next year. It's costing us $350 (choke-gasp!) and inconviencing us BIG time. I'm hoping he learns a lesson, especially since he's going to be doing extra chores including learning how to mow the lawn to help pay for it. We're also having him evaluated for ADHD inattentive type because after 6 years of asking his teachers if he could be (given the several other family members that are, including my 13yo) and all his teachers saying, "No, he's just social", his homeroom teacher said she'd be shocked if he weren't ADHD. I can't tell you how many times in the past few months we've been dealing with this I've said, "This is so frustrating!" My son didn't get the severity of this either until I handed him the summer school papers to sign.
Hugs and prayers that he makes it up and graduates on time.

My fingers are crossed for you.

My son (4th grade) has been bored with school all year. This year isn't as challenging as last year was- no homework! So he has more time to think about how badly he wants summer to be here.

Just hang in there and try not to badger him about his class. You said he really seems to be trying, and it might be just for you!

Hoping .... won't they allow him to attend the ceremonies and "graduate" with his class and then make up the class in the summer? That's what they did at my school.
Ame
