The Secret
Moms View Message Board: Books, Movies and TV Shows: The Secret
I just bought this book on Sunday.Has anyone read it?I've heard so many good things about it.This is going to be a family read. Its sounds so positive
Hi I haven't read it but am very interested in it as well as seeing the dvd. the whole concept of manifesting and consciously creating your life interests me. I know a lot of people think it is all baloney and the only secret is how to separate people from their $, but not me.
I haven't read the book, but did watch the video. It's a very interesting concept, and if nothing else promotes positive thinking. Not sure if I can post links to outside sources here, but if you are interested in watching the original edition of The Secret I can email you a link to watch it for free. If I can just post the link please let me know and I'll do that too. Be forewarned as the video is about 90 minutes long.
It's ok to post outside links and I'm VERY interested in watching this video and reading the book. All the bookstores around here sell out within hours of receiving the new shipment. Please do post that link, Kilara21.
Ditto Tink!! Please do post that link
Go ahead and post the link.. I have read the book, even took notes...
Here's the link The Secret I recommend checking it as soon as you can. The website says the movie will be posted for a limited time only. Enjoy!
I just finished watching The Secret Very inspirational and really alot of it,is just common sense. It's nice to be reminded about the goals we set while we're busy living life Thank you for sharing the video.
This was exposed as a scam last night on one of the news shows (dateline or one of those). Be very careful.
I looked at the site, and I still don't understand. What is it (The Secret) about, and what was exposed as a scam, Mia?
I saw the shows about it on Oprah. Then on The View the other day they were making fun of the book.
Sorry Ginny, I just now saw your question. "The Secret", the movie, it's ideas & methods (the law of attraction & the 'you can have it if you think it' philosophy), & the company behind it all were exposed as a scam on the show. No harm in watching it or in believing in the concepts, but be wary of their multi-level marketing packages (they are also known as/part of The Science of Getting Rich).
I have to admit, I only watched about ten minutes of the video. It reminded me too much of one of those late night infomercials! I think there is a good message in there somewhere, but the approach annoyed me.
I saw it featured in a full page ad in my newspaper for a "One Weekend Can Make You a Millionaire!" program featuring, of all people, Donald Trump. I have to say, "the Donald" is one of the last people I would take for a business model. His various financial problems with his Atlantic City casinos make it into the Philadelphia news regularly.
Ginny, the theory is... You think negative you bring more negativity into your life... You think positive you bring in positive. Basically that life is based on mind set and happiness comes from internal spirit not from external things/stimulation.. Which we are conditioned to believe that fulfillment is based on who we are (status) and what we own.. I think it is good in theory.. But we as humans have major issues with trying to over do things (the authors and producers of this movie and book for example) and we can turn a good thing into garbage with in the bat of an eye.. This too has become polluted in garbage and has lost its true meaning.. Joy is with in us all, all we have to do is accept it and stop trying to recreate the wheel.. The Secret has been twisted in success, success meaning by mans standards and we all know that mans standards always come at a cost.. By the way, I think the book is much better than the movie. The movie reminds me of an infomercial too..
Here's an op-ed about The Secret, including selected quotes from the book: The Secret "Imperfect thoughts are the cause of humanity's ills," "The only reason any person does not have enough money is because they are blocking money from coming to them with their thoughts." "You cannot 'catch' anything unless you think you can. . . . You are also inviting illness if you are listening to people talking about their illness."
