Enchens - A Year With Frog and Toad

Hi
You mentioned your valentine's special event was this play. Sounded like fun. My youngest has read some of Arnold Lobel's books (Frog and Toad Are Friends, Frog and Toad Together, Frog and Toad All Year, Days With Frog and Toad, Mouse Soup and some of his poetry). He actually is a real science person. Great boys stuff - no princesses only amphibians and friendship. I heard his daughter was working on a play. Is this it? Does it travel?

We love it when children's literature is made into plays, movies etc. Really gives legs to books we love. 3 dimensional is always better for us so if possible we'll read and then see a play, movie, listen to tapes, go to a museum/zoo to see the animals etc. on the same book. Love to hear about other things like this you do. Keeps me thinking and planning, not just settling now that he's a reader.

Hi, Linda,

Yes, we did see this play a we loved it. Dh and I remember when we used to read these books. Mil remembered them, too. This play actually made me realize that, hey, these were good books. I better check them out at the library. And you're right, they are perfect for boys.

Um, I don't think this is his daughter's work. It was explained to us by the producer that what they do at this theater is pick out the material to present, in this case they chose to weave several of the Frog and Toad stories together to give the feeling of having spent a year with the characters. Once the play has run, it is finished, so no, this particular one doesn't travel.

This is the second play we've been to at this particular venue. The first one was called "Go, Dog, Go" and then we checked the book out from the library. I like to expose the kids to museums, plays, etc just like you.

In October, we will be going to a small rodeo. The boys are into cowboys and horses ever since we watched a professional bullriders event on ESPN.

I usually just check the local paper for (low cost) events that we may attend, and I also check the magazine we get from the autoclub.

Sounds like we're on the same page. Right down to the rodeo. We went to a local rodeo in the fall so my son could connect the various cowboy TV shows and books with real life kids and adults who do this every day. It was a good thing to do. The one we went to was a very long event. We tried to sit as close as possible to the main event to see the differences in performance of the different competitors. I had to learn about rodeo before we went otherwise I would have been confused about the different competitions. We didn't stay for all of it. This one ran really late. Loved the entertainment - would have been worth going just for the shows and the kid competitions.
