I love to read true crime books and I am looking for a good one. Any suggestions would be wonderful. Oh yeah does anyone read Ann Rule? TIA Brooke

I've never read many, although fiction crime drama is my preferred genre. I was fascinated by "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote, I originally read it in a HS popular reading class, and then again when I moved to KS.

me me me! I LOVE Ann Rule!!!!! I also really enjoyed In Cold Blood. I used to go to the library and just scour the section the true crime books were in, at one point, 20 years ago, I'd read every true crime book in my local library! Guess I should check back there, I'm SURE they have new ones by now.

Karen, can you recommend any of Ann Rule's books?
I just ordered one from Amazon. I can't think of it off the top of my head. HUMM! Is the book In Cold Blood fiction?

By Karen~admin on Saturday, January 19, 2008 - 09:09 am:

Brooke, In Cold Blood is a true crime book.

As for Ann Rule, everything she writes is great reading. I just read Too Late to Say Goodbye, and as expected, I liked it. I am ordering Never Leave Me.

Everything She Ever Wanted was a good one. Ditto Possession. Bitter Harvest was EXCELLENT - and very disturbing. And, of course, The Stranger Beside Me (the book about Ted Bundy, the serial killer) was great.

She has quite a few books that have shorter stories of several crimes within the book. Honestly, I haven't read anything she writes that I didn't like.

Forgot to mention - Small Sacrifices was a great book - but as a Mom, it is very upsetting. It's the true story of Diane Downs, the psycho who tried to kill her 3 kids in order to get a married man who she was having an affair with, to be with her again. The attorney who prosecuted her actually adopted the 2 surviving kids.

I am reading If you really loved me. I am almost finished. What a good book. People are so odd. i feel really bad for the daughter Cinnamon. Now I need a new book to start soon.

I've read that one too! I really love Ann Rule's style, the background and details she gives, as well as her personal *relationships* with the accused in some cases - The Stranger Beside Me comes to mind right now - and her impressions of them, as well.

How many/which of her books have you read?

By Brooke327 on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 - 08:32 am:

Karen,
This is my first and I really enjoyed her. She does give great background details. I will be reading many more. I mostly buy my books though Amazon. Where do you purchase your books? What should I read next? Thanks

Small Sacrifices for sure. That was the first one that I read and she nailed the mom's personality to a tee. A few months after I read the book Oprah interviewed the mom and the detective. It was uncanny how she pinpointed everything about them plus their story.

I also like to read Mark Furman's books. Oh and Dominick Dunn.

Annie, wasn't that something?? A made-for-TV movie was done about that story - Farrah Fawcett played Diane Downs. It was a sick and horrifying story. :-(
