Wow! I don't think I have ever been blown away by a book the way this one has. If you ever need a read that will make you feel like the luckiest person ever to walk the earth - something to make you proud to be a good parent and a good person - then this is the book.
It was very disturbing, brutal and uplifting all at once.
So many times I gasped in astonishment that people could be so cruel to those in their charge.

Ame,
Read this because of what you wrote here. It is amazing what the childen of that house endured. And Dad was a doctor!! Remarkable!! What he** they went thru. I was so sad about her brother!! Did you go to her website? Some funny pictures there. Thanks for the recommendation!!

I am glad I was able to let you know about the book. I can't say I enjoyed it. I can say that it was life affirming and quite a mind blower. It is remarkable!
Yes, I saw her website. It is really amazing that she is a functioning, contributing, sane person.
I also checked out the "school" they were sent to. Nasty, nasty place :(

I sometimes forgot that I was reading a biography because it is hard for me to imagine those things really happening to kids; both at home and at the school!! Definitely makes one grateful for what they have!!

I am reading one now called One Small Boat by Kathy Harrison. She has written two books about her experiences fostering children. So,so sad; but great because of what her and her husband do for these extremely needy kids.

Her first one is called Another Place at the Table. I haven't been able to get it thru the library so I am going to buy it. Can't wait to read that one!!

I started this yesterday just before dinner and didn't stop until I finished it. I am trying to think of a word to describe it, it kind of reminded me of The Glass Castle.

I just started this book yesterday but haven't gotten very far yet due to time constraints. I'm nervous and anxious to read on after seeing these posts!

Wow, what a dark book. I can't believe that it is a true story. Can't say I enjoyed reading it either.
