Have any of you actually watched this? After hearing everything about it, I had decided this was not a show I wanted to watch. However, on the spur of the moment, I decided to check it out. If anyone's watched it, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Based on the 2 episodes I've seen, I have *really* mixed feelings about this show. A first thought was it was like sending the weak into a lion's den, and was exploiting the *only the strong survive* concept. But on the other hand, I've seen (so far) that it's showing natural instincts and traits of particular age groups, and individual personality and intellectual characteristics that the kids have. I am in no way condoning the show or speaking out against it. For one thing, I don't know enough about it, nor have I seen enough of it, to feel justified to do so. I'm just curious if anyone else has watched and what your thoughts are.
OK, I know there was a thread somewhat recently about this show and I haven't read the contracts through the posted links. And I'm not saying I agree with whatever is in them, OR everything about this show. And it's true, they are not out there totally *on their own* and by themselves/alone, camera crews are there, etc. That said, I have watched the show, and the thing that stands out in my mind is this: All of the kids participating show personality traits that are in line with their particular age. And it becomes more obvious with each show that each child's upbringing, teaching, beliefs, family values are showing in their personalities and behavior, which is obvious in their thought process and behavior/participation. Again, I am not saying I agree with the entire concept of this show, or anything else about it. But it's one of those things that I compare to watching a train wreck - you see it happening, but you can't stop watching. Anyway, I am still wondering if anyone else has watched, and what your opinions are. And please, don't throw rocks at me for watching! LOL
I only saw the first show. I think the concept is very interesting. Watching how they bring a community together without the experience of being "grown up" I find really interesting in a reasearch kind of way. I've never watched it again because I foget when it is on, and obviously I must be doing something else during that time. My daughter would love to do this. I don't know about the contracts but I think if the kids will be able to learn a lot about themselves and tolerance for others. I also think they need counseling after the show, afterall they are only kids without all the coping skills that come with age.
