I finished this today and it's great so I thought I'd recommend it. It happened to be on our Top 20 list of locally recommended books at the library, so I thought I'd try it. It's the author's memoir, and describes her very unusual, very poor childhood with parents who taught her these wonderful values in very unorthodox ways. it was a quick read, too. I thought it was interesting how I was constantly agreeing with her parents words of wisdom yet sometimes appalled at how they instilled that wisdom. It's written by Jeannette Walls.
I read this a couple of months ago and it was incredible. In an odd way, it reminded me of "A Child Called It" by Dave Pelzer. It was a real attention-grabber from the very beginning.
I read it a while back and I couldn't put it down. My mother and sister both borrowed it and read it until the wee hours of the morning.
I haven't read it yet, but it's on Amy's required reading list - she's a high school junior this year. I was reading the book jacket and it really looked like something I would like to read.
I started this yesterday. A friend of mine told me I had to read it. I'll finish it before the end of the day. It really is great. Some of the things that have happened to this woman have me sitting with my jaw dropped. She recalls her childhood with such vivid detail. I was telling my friend last night I really liked some of the parent's thought about things, but not to the extreme that the parents took them. It is a very quick read.
Thanks, Deanna. I just placed a hold at my library. I'm looking forward to rading it.
