Transformers
Moms View Message Board: Books, Movies and TV Shows: Transformers
Unfortunately, this isn't a movie for the young. My son is 10, and there was some content in it that I wasn't crazy about, but I could deal with. The word "masturbating" was said once, as well as the sh-word and just a few of other swear words. Other than that, the action was good, the story was good, and the computer animated graphics were good. I was on the edge of my seat for a while! Also be prepared for the trailers before the movie starts. They were TOTALLY inappropriate. If you go after the movie has been out a few weeks, you probably won't get the trailers.
I am personally dissappointed they put out a kids movie rated pg-13. I wish the movie industry would quit marketing inappropriate movies to young kids. But the reality the more parents who take their underage kids to see the shows, the less the movie industry cares, it just wants the money.
When I saw the trailer for Transformers, it totally didn't look like a kid movie, at least not for kids my ds's age (6). I told my dh that there was no way he was seeing that movie, it looked violent. Dh saw it by himself last weekend. He loved it and told me that the kids could see it, there were just a few swear words in it and that it was no big deal. I'm glad to hear another mom's point of view. Luckily ds has not had any interest in seeing it.
Of course, an adult male would love the movie! I remember when my son was that age, it was hard for me to get dh to understand that some things just weren't appropriate for him at that age. The older they get, the more relaxed we can be. I was bit surprised about the word "masturbating" being in it, but I didn't panic about it because we have already discussed that aspect of sexuality. It's been covered, so ds knew what it meant. It was clearly a "teen" movie.
BellaJoe, my boyfriend took his 6 year old son to see, it and they had a blast. He didn't even pay attention to the teen references, I think it was over his head, and he was ok with that.
And as an add-on to that, we didn't intend to take him, a bunch of us from work were going to see the premiere, and with his DS visiting, he went too. The people who wanted to see it were the mid-20s to early 30s crowd that remember Transformers from our childhood. I think this was more the target audience from the industry's side.
My dh had been so looking forward to seeing it. He watched the Transformers cartoons as a kid so he was psyched when the movie came out. I just love Josh Duhmel, that's the only reason i would watch it My ds would have no idea what that word means and it would totally go over his head. Dh said they blew up stuff a lot but there was no blood or gore. My kids have seen the first 2 Pirates of the Caribbean movies and love them and didn't think they were scary at all, so I don't think Transformers would be any worse, if it doesn't have too many swear words in it.
