Sparkling Wiggles

By Reds9298 on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 - 10:22 pm:

This is supposed to be funny to someone? I just don't even get it I guess. It's so class-less (is that a word?) that I don't even know what to say. It's more than sad that this child's parents (I assume that's who the adults in the background are) think this is funny.

By Marcia on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 - 11:26 pm:

That was just disgusting. What a sad couple of parents that poor kid has.

By Juli4 on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 03:46 am:

Oh my. Imagine the surprise the first time you hear her say "sparkling wiggles". But to video that and tell her to say those things is horrible. She thinks she is saying something completely different and now her parents have her all over the internet. Really though it is a reflection on them not her. She is innocently saying a word that is just fine.

By Crystal915 on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 03:54 am:

We've all had those moments where our kids mispronounced something that is embarrassing, or inappropriate, even though they did not mean to. However, to encourage that, and put it online, what were the parents thinking? What happens when the little girl says that in pre-school, or at grocery store, or something like that? Don't get me wrong, I've got a strange sense of humor, and my kids have picked up things that others might not find amusing, but I think these parents crossed the line.

By Luvn29 on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 08:19 am:

Wow. I cannot believe they would post something like that on the internet. Let me tell you, I completely get the whole speech thing because my son had (still has) a severe speech impediment which caused basically everything he said to come out differently from what he was trying to say. Let's just say he could make the "f" sound when he couldn't say the "d" sound and he really liked ducks! But we tried to get around it and teach him a better way to say it, so he said "buck" instead!

I can't imagine doing this. I'm sure the first time it came out (how exactly does one find out with a term as crazy as "sparkling wiggles"?) they laughed and it was quite funny, but to encourage it? She has no idea what is going on, and it's really sad.

By Kate on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 08:53 am:

Okay, call me clueless, but what the heck is she saying?? By the title of 'racist girl' on the video page I can figure out the wiggles...but sparkling?? And what do you guys mean it's something she just mispronounced?? If my 'wiggles' is the 'n' word I'm thinking of, then it's not so much a matter of her messing the word up, it's the fact that she knows the word at all...I mean, Adena's example of duck is 'oh, he took an innocent word and mispronounced it into something bad'. But if I'm right about this girl, she did the opposite...took a bad word/phrase and made it 'innocent'. I mean, her intent must have been bad to begin with, right?? Adena's son's intent wasn't bad to begin with... So, as I totally overanalyze this, indulge me and explain it all to me in terms that one very sleep deprived, stressed out mommy can understand....:) What the heck is she saying and why is it posted and what is the 'joke'?

By Tink on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 10:58 am:

Oh, that's just awful. Deanna, I'm not sure class-less is a word but it certainly describes these parents to a tee! I had a speech impediment when I was about this age (my "s" sound came out like an "f") and my grandfather would ask me to say "I'm a smart sucker" for his own amusement but it was done a handful of times, privately, and certainly wasn't offensive to an entire race of people. I'm really completely shocked over this video.

Moderators, if you need to further edit the foul language on my post, I understand. I'm uncomfortable with it, even with just the beginning letters given.

Kate, her parents are feeding her lines like "Get a job, sparkling wiggles" which she repeats but her speech issues make it sound like "Get a job, f------ n------". I think this case has the innocence (on the child's part) that Adena's son's situation had but her parents are exploiting it for their own amusement and that of EVERYONE on the internet.

By Hol on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 11:06 am:

That's really disgusting.

By Tripletmom on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 11:10 am:

They shouldn't being raising children, period. It makes me sick to my stomach that they thought this was funny. That poor little girl stuck with people like them for parents......

By Luvn29 on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 03:20 pm:

Kate, the little girl has no idea that she is saying or doing anything differently than saying "sparkling wiggles". More than likely, the child has watched the wiggles, and she has a severe problem saying that word, and the parents thought it sounded like the "N" word so they kept playing till they got the result in the video. It was definitely intended on the parents' part, but not so much on the little girl.

I have found that it is amazing how some children can say a word and it so completely sounds like they are saying something totally different because of their speech.

By Kate on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 04:15 pm:

Yes, but...it begins with her parents asking why the party was no fun and she replies there were too many sparkling wiggles there...what must she think that means? And if she doesn't know what sparkling wiggles are, who does she think needs a job? I kinda think she does know but feels it's appropriate since her parents are urging her on. Very sad....

By Karen~admin on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 04:39 pm:

It *is* disgusting..........but it's the parents who are wrong here. The child doesn't have a clue she is saying something that sounds offensive and inappropriate, and the parents are just adding fuel to this particular fire.

What is so sad is they are probably racist/bigots/whatever, and they will teach their child to be just as small minded as they are.

There are no regulations placed on parenting, unfortunately. And in this case, they are clearly needed.

By Cocoabutter on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 09:05 pm:

What is even more amazing is that they don't seem to get it. This is what it says on the Description:

"Little Racist Girl. Not sure why Break took it down so I thought Id upload it in case anyone missed it."

By Imamommyx4 on Thursday, March 1, 2007 - 02:06 pm:

Even though I personally may have been amused when one of my innocent children said something less than colorful either due to their innocence or a speech imperfection, I never encouraged them to continue it. I started working to help correct the problem. And I wouldn't have videoed the crude remark and sure as peanut butter comes from peanuts would not have published it on the internet for the whole world.

That is just wrong.

By Ginny~moderator on Thursday, March 1, 2007 - 05:00 pm:

I finally played it. Disgusting.

Remember that song from "South Pacific" "You've got to be taught" ... "to hate and fear, you've got to be taught from year to year, it's got to be drummed in your dear little ear, you've got to be carefully taught"

By Tonya on Friday, March 2, 2007 - 03:40 pm:

That is absolutely crazy. The parents were laughing about it. I cannot imagine telling my kids to say somethign like that ever.

This should be some sort of abuse case. There has to be something that these parents can get in trouble for here.
