Annie2 - re Martha Stewart
Moms View Message Board: The Kitchen Table (Debating Board): Annie2 - re Martha Stewart
Annie, here is a column by Ellen Goodman of The Boston Globe which expresses very well my ambivalence about Martha Stewart's present situation. http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/181/oped/Mindful_of_Martha+.shtml Let me know what you think. As you suggested, I am bringing this to the Kitchen Table.
Ginny, My DH already convinced me I was standing on a soapbox only because I think she is a powerful woman and I like her ideas. I will read the article and let you know what I think? Hopefully a challenging debate next time! Annie
Insider trading is insider trading is insider trading, don't care who you are!
I don't really know what insider trading is, but if someone told me I should sell my stock and save some money, I would have a hard time not doing it. LOL. Luckily no one gives me any good tips! I really don't know much about this insider trading business. It would be quite a temptation. These celebrities get caught doing everything. I am glad I am not a celebrity!
Insider trading is when someone has access to information that is not available to the general public - that is, owners, managers, employees, board members and friends of same have access to "inside" information. The theory, if I understand it, is that the stock market should be a "level playing field" (LOL), and people who have private information or early access to information that is not generally known, they should not profit at the expense of others who are not insiders. Specifically, when Martha Stewart sold her stock at around $60, someone bought it at around $60. If she had inside information she knew she was selling a loser and that someone other than she would be the loser.
