O.J.Simpson sentenced today

Moms View Message Board: The Kitchen Table (Debating Board): O.J.Simpson sentenced today
By Annie2 on Friday, December 5, 2008 - 02:48 pm:

What do you think? 9 to 33 years.
I personally think he should have been convicted for murdering his wife and her friend.
I am glad that he his finally going to be behind bars.
Just my thoughts but putting them here on the debate board.... :)

By Kaye on Friday, December 5, 2008 - 03:01 pm:

I think he murdered his wife, but the court system tried him and found him not guilty. So although I think he should of been imprisoned. I think for what he did, this sentence is probably too harsh. I guess karma. He has done some arrogant things and I think he is a danger to society, so I am glad he will be off the streets for some time.

I think he's getting his just rewards. I always thought he was guilty of murdering his wife and Ron Goldman.

OJ Story

"I just wanted my personal things. I was stupid. I'm sorry. I didn't know I was doing anything illegal. I thought I was confronting friends. I thought I was retrieving my things. I didn't mean to hurt anybody and I didn't mean to steal anything," Simpson said.

It's a little late to be remorseful now.

I think he was guilty of his wife and Ron Goldman as well and I hope he rots in jail.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Saturday, December 6, 2008 - 12:09 pm:

I also think the sentence is a bit extreme. I am a tad confused, as to why murderers get less time then he will be getting.

I too feel he murdered Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman, by the way, but he was tried and found not guilty. I can't help but think this judge is giving him such an extreme sentence because of the fact he walked on the murders charges. This is why there is a Fairness in Sentencing Act, Double Jeopardy, etc. To me this is a prime example of why many federal cases are heard out of jurisdiction of the crime. Because of OJ being a "star", the judge knows his reputation, the world knows of the crimes he walked on, and no judge could be impartial under such a situation. I can't help but feel this is a sentence based on OJ's past, not on his current charges, which technically is against the laws of this nation. Which means he will likely be able to get the sentence over turned, which it is my understanding of what he plans to pursue once he is formally sentenced.

So, although I believe he should have already been serving life (on death row), I am on the fence as to whether him getting 33 years for a crime others get less than 7 for is all together right, and I doubt it will be upheld in a higher court.

I can't help feeling for his kids in all this nonsense. They lost there mother (likely at his hands) and he is such a buffoon that he can't keep his nose clean after being given a second chance at life.

I am leaning on the side of Karma too, you reap what you sew...

Honestly, while I think he was guilty of their murders, I don't think that's why his sentence was so harsh. That judge is known for harsh sentences, and he shows a blatant disrespect for the law in all manners. NORMAL people, even normal celebrities, would have asked for the stuff back, and then filed a lawsuit if they felt someone had stolen items that belong to them. NORMAL people don't go barging into hotel rooms with guns. He shows no remorse for things until he is caught and convicted, he had plenty of opportunities to plead out, KNOWING they had so much concrete evidence against him. He is an idiot for wasting taxpayer money to take it to trial, and when you do that, you risk a harsh sentence. She sentenced him within the limits of the law, and did not give him the worst sentence possible. I think the only relation that has to the Goldman/Brown murder is that he once again acted as if he was above the law, but this time, he couldn't lie or talk his way out of it. I'm glad this judge wasn't going to crumble under his BS. Good riddance, I hope he rots in prison.

Oh and the quote above, "... I didn't mean to steal anything." Then why did you and your buddies barge in and draw guns?! Are we supposed to believe that even though there are recordings of you planning, executing, and rehashing the event, you didn't MEAN to do it?

By Marcia on Saturday, December 6, 2008 - 03:01 pm:

Bobbie, 33 years? I heard 15 years, and a chance of parole in 9.

By Crystal915 on Saturday, December 6, 2008 - 03:53 pm:

It's anywhere from 9 with parole to 33 max. Click on Dawn's link, it explains his full sentence.

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, December 6, 2008 - 09:17 pm:

Cyrstal, my feelings exactly!

By Emily7 on Sunday, December 7, 2008 - 04:43 pm:

I also agree with you Crystal.

By Reds9298 on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 12:05 am:

I agree with all of you in one way or another! LOL Bottom line for me...he's a menace to society, guilty of everything from day one, and I also think he deserves to rot in jail. Regardless of what it's based on, he deserves it and it's a long time comin'.
