Where to buy gas in USA

Moms View Message Board: The Kitchen Table (Debating Board): Where to buy gas in USA
By Feona on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 - 09:29 am:

Got this in the mail from a friend. Interesting... Don't know if it would make a difference where you buy gas. Hess is the cheapest around here to buy gas except I don't like their pumps... Anyway...

WHERE TO BUY YOUR USA-GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON--
Why didn't George W. think of this? Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it.

It might even be good for us!

The Saudis are boycotting American goods.

We should return the favor.

An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS.
Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia.
Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis.

Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends.

I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil.

These companies import Middle Eastern oil:
Shell............................ 205,742,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels
Exxon /Mobil............... 130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels
Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels
If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION! (oil is now $55-$60 a barrel)

Here are some large companies that
do not import Middle Eastern oil:

Citgo......................0 barrels
Sunoco...................0 barrels
Conoco..................0 barrels
Sinclair.................0 barrels
BP/Phillips............0 barrels
Hess.......................0 barrels
ARC0....................0 barrels

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy
and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much
they are importing.

Hmmmmm...... DH swears by Shell V Power gas and won't use anything else. I guess he just figures that not all Middle Easterners are trying to kill him. Most were pretty nice when he was there, offering showers in their home and meals to the American military. I don't think we should have them financially suffer for the few bad apples over there. That said, i've always been a fan of Chevron. :)

Urban legend

That being said..I buy from whomever has the cheapest gas prices, right now it's Hess at $2.99 a gallon - and I can't believe I am excited at that price.

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 - 11:18 am:

In Sheboygan, as of this morning, it was $2.89. I just buy where it's cheapest! I'm not worrying about where they actually get their oil from.

I don't know what the heck the middle east has to do with it. Gas costs a lot because we use too much of it. Simple.

By My3cuties on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 - 04:37 pm:

I have always loved Exxon. I can't believe it is down to 2.75 here....woohoo!

By Ginny~moderator on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 - 06:57 am:

Heck, and I was feeling great at $2.99 yesterday. Which is still not bad, considering that the station near my office was $2.349 Monday.

By Ginny~moderator on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 - 06:58 am:

And actually, gas rationing didn't work all that well in the 80s - I was there, as were a lot of other people.

By Amecmom on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 - 07:46 am:

They are still price gouging up here. $3.29 for regular. The problem with gas prices is that once they go up, they never seem to come back down very far.
As far as why it's so expensive, there are a whole slew of factors that influence gas prices. Just changing where we buy gas from is not going to have much of an effect on pricing.

I remember gas rationing!!!! UGH!

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 - 06:36 pm:

When in the 80's?

By Emily7 on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 - 07:05 pm:

We actually went down 2 cents, we are paying $2.87 a gal for regular unleaded.

By Imamommyx4 on Thursday, September 15, 2005 - 01:13 am:

I can't believe I'm excited over $2.84 a gallon.

By Karen~moderator on Thursday, September 15, 2005 - 07:30 am:

I paid $2.53 yesterday......quite a difference from the $3.19 we paid a week ago.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, September 15, 2005 - 07:42 am:

$2.53? Lucky you! (mumbles something about minimum markup law and WI's gas tax!)

By Cocoabutter on Thursday, September 15, 2005 - 08:33 am:

$2.78 here WOOOHOOO!

By Karen~moderator on Thursday, September 15, 2005 - 09:20 am:

I will not let my tank go below half full, sometimes 3/4 full, because with residents slowly drifting back into our area and so many gas stations and businesses closed, there are gas lines and sometimes gas is hard to get. So I will actually pay whatever I have to, to keep gas in my car these days.

By Colette on Thursday, September 15, 2005 - 09:22 am:

"down" to 2.95 here...

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, September 15, 2005 - 11:18 am:

Still 2.89 around here. Hasn't changed in a couple of days.

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, September 15, 2005 - 02:27 pm:

I filled up last week for 3.29. Now it's down to 3.15.

By Annie2 on Thursday, September 15, 2005 - 07:25 pm:

I filled up yesterday, at Walmart, for $2.69...no line either. :)

By Bobbie~moderatr on Friday, September 16, 2005 - 12:58 am:

Gas is $2.84 a gallon here. At our highest it was $3.19.. But I got to love Krogers. I spend so much money there I get 50 cents off per gallon, for four fill ups. Which means I only paid $2.34 a gallon... Still took 30 dollars to fill up my van though... :(

By Kim on Friday, September 16, 2005 - 07:50 am:

Annie, we keep running out of gas over here!
