US jobs going over seas to India, China, etc.

I am so uphauled right now. I know this is happening, but I am so outraged at this tactic of big companies. There are going to be thousands hundreds of thousands of US jobs going overseas. Apparently there are more people in India that want to work than us spoiled Americas? We need the money here not there. Why not just fork over billions of dollars to them and give them weapons etc? Why even have a war, it is a waste of money!!!

There are thousands of people here in USA that want to work, but there are no real jobs in their area. But lets help the people in India grow their manufacturing dollars! That makes absolutely no sense to me and I will boycot ANY company that submits to this idea.

AAAUUUGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If a big company has a choice of paying someone $17/hour or $3/hour for the same job, they are going to pick the $3/hour so they can increase their company profits and the top executives can increase their bonuses. If you are a shareholder or an officer, you benefit from having the work done at $3/hour.

I do understand that, but I am uphauled that "they" can get away with not paying minimum wage to people in a foreign country and thus taking jobs away from the people who are going to be using them. Well won't be using them cuz there wont be any jobs here to afford to buy their products.

It is so UNAMERICAN. Look out for the greater dollar not the greater good(of the people.)

I believe Unethical is the right word. Because there are so many products that can be purchased we really don't know what part came from what country and how do you really find out.

It's great for the companies but think of all the underage children working in sweatshops:(

I'm sorry I find this subject sad also.

I guess the other side of being unethical is GREED!!! Too many companies become greedy and look at ways to cut costs and still keep the same profit not lowering the prices to us the consumer.

I know shut up Marg! LOL, it is just SAD!

I agree with you, but here's something to think about.

One of the great things about the US are shopping malls where you can buy almost anything at reasonable prices.

A new 25" TV for $199
Nice looking clothes for $10-$20

The only reason these items are this cheap is because they are made overseas by cheap labor and imported. If they were made here that SAME TV would cost $500-$600 and those clothes would cost double or triple.
This would be required to support the higher wages of American workers.

SO, are you willing to pay these sorts of higher costs for goods to support your fellow (unknown) American?

Most people would say "Sure!" in principle, but vote with their pocketbooks for the less expensive merchandise.

This would put those "made in america" patriotic companies out of business VERY quickly.

Even Wal-Mart gave up trying to only do "Made in America" products.

By Happynerdmom on Saturday, March 6, 2004 - 10:21 am:

John, you're exactly right. We Americans ARE spoiled, and we think we can have our cake and eat it, too. People don't realize just how great the sacrifices would be to go just "American made." The fact is that globalization is here to stay, and we need to figure out a way to work with it, instead of just griping about it. It also helps other countries. I know not many of you care about that, but I've been to India and have seen the children that were purposely crippled at birth so they would make more sympathetic beggars. I understand the devastation to a family when you lose a job, and you have every right to be frustrated, but very, very few of our even POOREST citizens of this country live in the absolute poverty of much of our world.

By Missy3 on Saturday, March 6, 2004 - 12:32 pm:

Happy--I know how is in India. My SIL family is from there and visits there often I have seen photos as well as videos. So even more reason to go pray on the poverty sticken and pay them next to nothing, which to the poor is a lot. WE are taking advantage of them. I am not talking about sweat shops, might I add. I was referring to all these jobs being sent over seas.

Next time you call a large company for customer service-like COMPPAQ, ask the rep where they are. My experience, the man told me he was in New Dehli,India. Why can't the guy answer the phone here in the USA? Cuz no one here wants to work, but we all have to have the top of the line stuff to survive. i.e. cell phones, dsl etc. So anyway that guy was doing a job for much less money over there than the big companies paying minimum wage over here. Of course the big guys profits are up, there employee expense is WAY LOW because of this. Where if they were here in the USA they would be tanking! So use your neighbors as best you can!!!
