Opinion needed about furniture
I just "inherited" two arm chairs and I thought that I would have them slipcovered in denim for the kids playroom but now I am thinking that it may just be more cost effective to just go to IKEA and buy two chairs that are already slipcovered and be done with it. We have had good luck with IKEA stuff in the past, I know that you have to watch what you get. My kids are 10 and 7 both girls, so they are not rough on furniture. I am thinking that instead of going through the hassle of finding someone to slipcover, picking out the fabric, lugging the chairs there and then picking them up, it would be easier to make one quick trip to IKEA buy them then it's done. I know that slipcovering can be expensive. What are your opinions?
For a kids room, can you just order slip covers on line and toss them on? Then you could wash as needed! I wouldn't hassle with reupholstering them unless they are very expensive furniture.
I agree with Kaye. You can buy adjustable slip covers on line, or at any discount store or department store, and I know you can get denim as well as other kinds of fabrics. Domestications has them in their catalog, and I've done well with products from them in the past. They won't be a perfect fit, but they'll be pretty good, especially if you get the plastic thingies you shove down at the back and sides of the cushion to keep the slip cover from pulling out. You're talking about a kids playroom, and they will be hard on anything upholstered - even though you say your girls are not hard on furniture, they will be harder on the chairs than adults would be. With a removable, inexpensive slip cover you can throw it in the washer whenever it needs it and be done with it.
OK, Domestications doesn't have denim slipcovers in their online catalog, but Target does, and also cotton duck slipcovers, for a couple of different styles of chair. I just typed +denim +slipcover +chair in Goggle and lots of sites came up, many with names I recognize (Target, Macy's, Amazon, etc.)
Thanks ladies. After looking at the chairs again I think that I am going to just get new chairs. These are 20 years old, still in good shape, but just not what I had in mind. I thought they were but now that they are in my house I just don't want them. I found some on the IKEA site that suit my vision better. Thanks for the input :-)
