Ebay or a Garage sale?
I am trying to declutter my life, and that of my family. I am wondering what to do with all the items that I am deciding really are uncessary. I really don't like to do garage sales...I just hate it when people come up to and ask you if you will take a nickel for something marked $2.00 that just drives me crazy. Plus it is a lot of work and takes an entire weekend out of my life. I don't have much experience selling on ebay so I don't know if it would be a better option or not??
Yard sale--1 or 2 days work. Ebay--possibly several days listing, answering emails, requesting payment and finally shipping. Don't get me wrong, I love ebay BUT it it can be a lot of work.
Bag it all up, give it to Goodwill. You'll get a tax write-off, you'll help someone in need, and you'll declutter. Much easier and a win-win situation for all.
I'm with Pam. I think my time's worth more than I end up getting from garage sales so I donate or use freecycle. Both are easier and leave me feeling good.
Ditto Pam. I always donate to the local Rescue Mission and Women's Shelter whenever I have a ton of stuff I'm getting rid of. Our RM will actually come and pick it up if you request it, which I've only done when I had A LOT of stuff. You're helping someone else AND the tax write-off is great. Maybe a few things you could sell on ebay if you wanted to.
Ditto Pam, Cori and Deanna on this one. I've had two garage sales and find them to be a pain in the neck. Choose some higher priced items that may bring in a buck from Ebay and donate the rest. ;)
I Ebay a lot of our kids' clothes, and any more expensive items we're getting rid of, but I usually donate the rest to the local Disabled American Veterans thrift store. If you choose to Ebay stuff, do larger lots of items like clothes, and set a low starting price.
We are decluttering because we are getting ready to move. I am donating everything to The Cancer Federation. Like everyone else said, I don't have time for a garage sale or ebay, and I am helping someone in need. It is definitley a win/win.
I've tried both. I don't have time to worry about it, as much as I would like the money in return. I just gather up my stuff and ask God to bless my gifts and donate. I also use the Freecycle yahoo group to get rid of stuff without much effort. If you want cash, there is another yahoo group called "makeadeal" Not sure if either are avail in your location, but it is worth checking.
I have done all 3 of the above. For yrs I would just load it all up and donate it and then write it off on our taxes... Obviously that the simplest thing. However this yr I did sell a few items on Ebay and its fun if you have either high dollar items or a large lot of clothes for people to bid on... My ds made more then me selling his gamecube and games!!!! We started it at $85 and it sold for almost $160. LOL Everything I do not sell on Ebay this Spring is going to be sold at a huge neighborhood garage sale. I thought I would be neighborly and participate this yr. Even tho I despise having garage sales. My youngest wants to have a Lemonade stand and make his own money. So how could I say no to that? For the last 14 yrs I have just donated things tho... I donated alot of things this winter and still had alot of item to sell on ebay and sell at a garage sale when we have it. ahhhhh Thats too much stuff! ugh
