Silly question....driving me nuts
What is it called when a word is spelled exactly the same ,forward or backward ? Example,my dgd's name is Hannah. For the life of me,I can't remember what it is called.
That's called a palindrome.
Thanks ! But is there another word for this also. That doesn't sound familiar to me.
I thought it was an oxymoron, but is not. It's definitely a palindrome.
Definitely a Palindrome Able was I ere I saw Elba - is a famous palindrome. And there's alwas Otto. An oxymoron is a phrase where the two words are or seem contradictory. Examples: deafening silence - jumbo shrimp (think about it - shrimp usually means small in slang) - Hell's Angels
I don't know what word I was thinking of.Thanks for yall's help.Do you pronounce it pal-in-drome ?
That's it, Wandilu. With the accent/stress on pal.
Were you thinking anagram like I was? I had to look it up to see why I was wrong. I did a Google search on Palindromes and anagrams. Who knew that I could get an English lesson on Mom's view??? LOL
Here are some anagrams. They are rearranged words! Dormitory: Dirty Room Schoolmaster: The classroom Elvis: Lives Clint Eastwood: Old West Action Western Union: No Wire Unsent The Country Side: No City Dust Here Desperation: A Rope Ends It The Morse Code: Here Come Dots Slot Machines: Cash Lost in'em Conversation: Voices Rant On Heavy Rain: Hire a Navy
