How do you find documents for a divorce?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive March 2006: How do you find documents for a divorce?

I had the medical assistance meeting with social services this morning for my mother.
In order to put her into a nursing home, I need to find her divorce decreee from 1978. I know they got divorced in Jefferson County in Golden, CO. but that's all I know.
My dad can't find the papers....grrrr...

Where do I start?

Contact the county clerk. It's the same as marriage and birth records, and is kept on the county books, as far as I know.

The county clerk, or, in some states the records are sent on to a central state records office after a certain number of years. But the county clerk will know. In Google, type - Jefferson County Courts Golden CO - and you should get it right away. That's how I find courts all over the country for my job.

Thanks! I actually found a place that can ship it to me in 2-3 days! Colorado has a great system! :)
