I have to take three capsules every day ..but found it cramps my stomache? any advice on taking it ? I take two multivitamins ( flinstones) lol a b12 a vitamin c and 3 coral calcium and 3 glucosomine. cuz of the weight loss surgery I have to take these the rest of my life. Well the glucosomine is for osteoarthritis in my neck shoulders spine and hips.

I take a multivitamin which contains calcium but do not take an extra calcium tablet. I drink alot of milk during the day. I also eat cheeses and yogurt so I get plenty of calcium through my diet naturally.

I had gastric by pass in september and have lost 97 pounds since then and 150 since jan 05 ... because the surgery I cant eat all that ...never took vitamins before .... i eat some cheese and yogurt but not alot takes me about 90 minutes to finish a container of yogurt and im full for about8 hours ... sighs sometimes I wonder... but always say it was worth it. I have my life back! but its just hard to take the calcium.

The calcium shouldn't bother your stomach. When taking vitamins, especially since they make up most of your diet right now, you should take good quality products. Flinstones won't do anything for you. You're much better off going to a good health good store and getting a multi for adults. If something is bothering you, it's best to take it after you've eaten.

Hooray on the weight loss!! You must feel amazing!!!

I was just informed by my internist that I need to take a calcium supplement twice a day because my mother has osteoporosis. I know my mother had a difficult time with the calcium supplements causing her some stomach upset as well. I am in the same boat as you. I don't which brand to take although Marcia makes a good point.

WOOHOO on the weight loss! :)

Could you perhaps take the Viactiv soft calcium chews? Each chew has 500 mgs of calcium. And they come in a few flavors, mainly chocolate. I'm a horrible pill taker, so I take these.

Can you take Tums? It has great calcium. I am taking it for acid reflux right now from the pregnancy and it is great.

By Feona on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 - 06:18 am:

Also there is kids calcium you can take. There are gummy bear calcium if you like sweet. They have at drugstore.com. By the way the tum fruit flavor tastes good to me. (compared to stomach acid anyway.) Tums is cheap too. You can get store brand. CVS brand is good fruit flavor. You can get on sale too.

Goodness, Jewlz, you are doing so well on your weight loss! Congratulations!

I worry about you, though. Do you feel weak at times since you are eating so little?

Sorry, no advice with the calcium. I have the same problem with supplements.
Take care, and I hope you are able to find something that works!

Jewlz, it *could* be the coral calcium. I actually can't take coral calcium because I have an iodine allergy. I take Caltrate 600 Plus twice a day. There are liquid calcium supplements available, I'd check a Whole Foods or a place like GNC for a liquid one if I were you. I have a friend who had GBP last year, I'll ask her what she does.

By Marcia on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 - 11:45 am:

You can also get chewable calcium. I have to crush it and put it in yogurt or apple sauce for one of my kids.

By Marcia on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 - 11:48 am:

I forgot to mention, you can also get good quality chewable vitamins from a health food store.

Jewlz, this is my friend's reply:

I take the store version (generic) of Viactiv. I compared labels and there is no difference. She should look for Calcium with Vitamins D & K so that the Calcium is more easily absorbed. I use the soft chews (carmel or chocolate) 500mg twice daily. It makes me feel like I am getting a treat...........LOL. Luckily I have had no problem digesting them.
