Online Stock buying???
Has anyone or does anyone use an online stock buying site? My dad gave us some money and I wanted to invest a bit of it. Since I am only purchasing a couple companies and have no desire to "day trade" I wanted to save the brokerage cost and do it myself online. I already know the stocks I am purchasing so the "advise" a broker gives is not required. If you would like to keep your info private and perfer to post to me personally, just email me. My addy is in my profile. I'd prefer no annon post simply because I don't want someone who is just scanning the web and replying to get me headed in their direction for monitary purposes. Thanks Dana
I use to go in and buy or sell diff stocks online when dh would call during the day and tell me too. But I cant remember what website it was. I'll have to ask him later and come back to your post! I like stock but I hate the stock market. LOL Makes me nervous.
One of my sons is a financial advisor with a major bank in the area. I'll ask him tonight.
Thanks, Conni and Ginny. I'll be looking forward to your replies. I am very nervous about finding the right place to do this. I know it is safe and all, but I really want to know who I'm dealing with. I did a google and there are so many different websites saying they do this. The only company I know the name of is Ameritrade or something like that, but the only reason I know it is because of commercials on TV.
deleted post. Hey Dana, I left my post up for a while but am deleting it. If you did not get a chance to read it email me at clmcdan at yahoo dot com... We are headed out for the day, but will check email later tonight. Have a good day! Conni
Ginny, did he have any comments on the available online trade companies. Ofcourse I know he should not recommend one, but I just have no idea on how to educate myself on this. TIA
Dana, I haven't heard back from him. If I don't here by tomorrow a.m., I will call him. I emailed him, but I know his wife was out of town and he was in sole charge of my granddaughter (even took Friday off - a day she is not in daycare - to be home with her) and Lori came home late last night. So I doubt he's read his email. But I will have an answer tomorrow.
Thanks Ginny. Sounds like he has a full plate going on. Don't worry about asking. I decided to just go ahead and spend the charges using a broker . It feels so wasteful to spend the fees when my investment amount is so limited...but oh well. If I keep waiting, the stock price keeps rising each day and it will cost just as much just to purchase. Thanks for your efforts!
Fidelity and Schwab have like 4.1% savings account account no lock in - with not CD. I think it is great with the no lock in. If you want cd there is 3 month 4.3% or 4.1% six month was like 4.6%. Interest rates are going up. The cds are government insured up to 100,000 dollars! Fidelity and Schwab buy cds from banks around the country for you and they are insured since they are cds.
Have you talked with someone at your bank that handles investing? Maybe they have an online service they recommend off the record to people and maybe they can give you a little free advice...
Just gonna do the trades w/ my Dad's brokers. He has used them for many many years and at least I am certain they will treat me right.
Dana, my son finally responded, and I am sorry to be so late. My son said, first, that buying individual stocks has a lot of risk, and he strongly recommended buying into a mutual fund - which type depends on the level of risk you are willing to take. When I pressed him, he said E-Trade (E-trade.com) would be OK. But I think you are much wiser to go to a broker you know and have reason to trust.
