PamT - St. Louis
I don't know if you saw my reply to you about moving to St. Louis. We are looking at an area north of your parents. It is Wentzville/O'Fallon/St. Charles. Do your parents know anything about this area? It is a newer area with lots of growth and good schools. I really think we will end up here and I am a little worried. I have heard very mixed things from people that have lived in the area, the biggest being that people are not very friendly. How did your parents like living here? BTW, dh's office is just a little north of where your parents lived. We looked in that area, but it has gotten very expensive. We can get a lot more for our money in the area we are looking at.
Hi Debbie, I thought you were going back to Texas!
Kate, we want to go back to Texas, but there aren't any openings for dh there right now. They are reorganizing, so something may happen in the next few months, but we don't know. Dh got moved to the St. Louis office in the fall, so he is commuting home on the weekends. We have to move there when school lets out if nothing comes open. It is getting too hard with him commuting 5 hours back and forth. Not to mention his being gone all week. Dh is looking outside the company, but he hasn't found anything that pays enough or is with a stable enough company. Dh loves his job, it is with a very good company and he gets paid great, it is just the location we don't like. So, it will have to be a really good job with a good company for us to leave. So, I am preparing and accepting that there is a good chance we will end up in St. Louis. I am hoping if I come to grips with it, something will open in Texas before summer.
Ohhhh. I hope things work out for you guys. I knew he was commuting these days, but I still had it in my head that he was in Texas somehow. Good luck to you!
Sorry Debbie. I didn't see your reply on the other post. I don't know about the others, but do know that St. Charles is a great area. Lots of cute little shops too. I'll email my parents and brother and get their input. They all loved St. Louis and said that they would move back in a heartbeat. The only reason that they left is that they wanted to be out of cold weather and on the water. St. Louis is a clean, pretty town with lots of cool stuff to do from Forest Park (zoo, art museum, Lindberg museum, skating, walking trails) to the science center, The Magic House, Rams/Cardinals/Blues sports teams, great restaurants, 6 Flags, etc. WE actually may be considering a move there in a couple of years ourselves. I'll email and try to get more specific scoop for you though.
Thanks, Pam. I would really appreciate any info they can give me. Dh really likes the people he works with. They have been very helpful, and have given us lots of information about the surrounding areas, schools, etc. So, I was suprised to hear from a few people that they thought it was a very unfriendly place to live. I do wish it were farther south and warmer, but it is warmer then where we are now. My ds is a big Albert Pujols fan, so he is excited to see the Cardinals.
Debbie, here's what my mom said: I would recomend St. Charles over the other two. It is very quaint and has really good schools. Don't know what the housing market is like now. If they need a realtor, they should use Colleen Lawler. Also, check out Lake St. Louis..there are many new subdivision there now. Still waiting to hear back from my brother.
The part of O'Fallon we are looking at is actually right next to Lake St. Louis! And, several of the houses that I like on realtor.com are actually in Lake St. Louis. Dh has been going out looking around and I think we are leaning more towards this area. I have a website that was given to dh that ranks the schools. The ones that are really good are by Lake St. Louis and the O'Fallon area next to it. We liked this area because it is newer and we want a home that is less then 5 yrs. old. There are also several inventory homes that are move in ready. We like St. Charles, but the homes are older, and we have not had a great experience with our current home that was older when we bought it. As far as the realtor, the company is handling the move, so they have a list of realtors that we pick from. But, I will see if Colleen Lawler is on the list. Thank you! and....who knows, maybe we will be neighbors one day!
Debbie, I heard from my brother this morning and here's what he had to say: O'Fallon/St. Charles is a good area. Starting to get pricey though. Wentzville is really kind of far out. If I were living there again, I would definitely live in the O'fallon (Missouri)/St. Charles area. Also should consider St. Peters (near St. Charles).
Thank you, Pam. It sounds like we are looking at good areas. It is great to hear that someone that has lived there likes them. A lot of people from dh's office live out that way too. Thank you again.
