Freecycle
For those who do freecycle, do you write a thank you e-mail if you pick up something? I must admit, when I first started I did not. Then, over time, I would get e-mail thank yous for items I gave away. I always thought this was so nice. So now, I ALWAYS write a thank you to the person. It seems though, I may only get thank yous half the time. A couple of months ago, I gave away a treadmill. Now the treadmill was over 12 yrs old, but it was a top of the line one when we bought it. It was big and sturdy, and good for somebody who ran/jogged(not me of course, I am a walker LOL). The lady never wrote a thank you. I mean its ok, but that was a big item. Just wondering what your experience is with thank yous from freecycle.
No, I never have written or recvd a thank you on freecycle stuff. I did email someone a thank you once though.
Only if I didn't have an opportunity to thank the person when picking the item up. Other than that, a verbal "Thank you!" is standard practice here.
I don't participate very much with Freecycle, but the few times I have I always send an email thank you and I've usually received one.
I would say that most people have sent me an email of thanks. I have only received 1 item, and I know I emailed to thank that person.
The few times I have received an item, I wrote a thank you, but I have given away TONS of things and can only remember getting 1 thank you back. It does irritate me!! I mean, a "thank you" was not what I was looking for, but I have given away some really nice items.
I gave away a washer, dryer, refrigerator, glass table, dining room set, sofa, kids toys, stove, fondue set, etc--etc. The only thing I really received a thank you after pick-up was the stove. They were appreciative in person but also followed up with an email. The last few people who picked up were so rude my hubby said no more. Now if we have anything it will just go to Goodwill.
I do agree with Yvonne on the rudeness, some people are such a PITB that I will be more likely to donate to the Disabled Veterans Thrift store than Freecycle, unless it's a large item that I would rather not move myself. Then again, I've found some really great things on FC, and have met sweet people. One is a dog rescuer, part of a privately run foster group, and I've been working with my vet and pet store to help collect things for them, because I know how much she cares about the animals, and how expensive it can get. Freecycle is like anything else online, hit or miss with the people you meet!
I think it is great way to get rid of the really big heavy stuff. Who wants to fill a land fill?
I gave someone our Britax carseat through Freecycle and she followed up with a very nice thank you note that I truly appreciated.
I always thank them in person and when I get home, I make sure I do email a thank you as well. I think it makes the Person feel good about giving things to others when they know it's appreciated.
People should say thank-you all the time. They should find a way. We teach our children everyday to use there manners. We as adults teach children, and if they here it from us it will come naturally for them.It makes everybody feel good when manners are involved
