Chili recipe?
I know this should be on the recipe board but...I'm not certain how often it gets checked and I'm going to make it for dinner tomorrow nite. I'm looking for a simple "real" chili recipe! lol ya know the kind with meat (will use veggie ground round) mushrooms etc. Anyone?
I'd love an *easy*, to-die-for chili recipe too!
Are you wanting chili "beans" that you would eat with cornbread or crackers as a meal or chili for hotdogs?
I often use the Copykat recipe from Wendy's. Sometimes I replace the burger with stew meat. Mushrooms in chili?
Are you a vegatarain? Is so I have a great Chili recipe I make... Just gotta find it. I'm also a non meat eater... Yuck!
Dawn's Chili 1 pound ground beef 3 stalks of celery, diced 1 onion, diced 1 can Campbell's tomato soup 2 16 oz. cans tomatoes 2 cans kidney beans 3 tablespoons chili powder 2 tsp oregano 1 tsp paprika 1/2 tsp pepper 1 cup uncooked macaroni, cooked Brown ground beef, onions and celery. Add tomato soup, tomatoes, kidney beans, chili powder, oregano, paprika, pepper; heat to boil. Turn down heat and simmer for 45 minutes. About halfway through the simmering time, cook the macaroni. Add macaroni after it's cooked.
mmmm...Dawn that sounds so yummy. I just might have the stuff in my kitchen
It is good. Has just enough snap for my family. Kids and I won't eat anything if it's packing heat! LOL!
Shelly I would LOVE your vegitarian chili recipe. I don't claim to be completely vegetarian simply because I occassionally do eat meat, I have to admit mostly seafood and white meat very rarely do I eat red meat. Hence the veggie ground round it's to trick meat eaters into thinking they're eating meat been working for a long time and even works in things like lasagna. That does sound yummy Dawn! I'll have to try it. I'll probably make a few changes though (like adding mushrooms and brown beans too) LOL @ not eating anything if it's packing heat! I love heat ;) Annie you don't put mushrooms in chili? Hmm I don't think I've ever had it without! In my hometown every year there is a chili bake off..and everyone makes different kinds of chili and you get to go around tasting it all then you vote on the best and guess at things like secret ingredients people put in and the like. The one I remember the most had saskatoon berries in it! I don't know how to explain what they are but I guess they'd be "similar" to blueberries. It was darn good too!
Well, I'll try to give you my recipe, but mine's one of those throw it in and adjust as you go! And I make a big pot full. 4-6 cans Pinto beans 4 cans Dark Kidney Beans 4 cans Light Kidney Beans 2-3 cans Diced tomatoes and green chilis 4-6 lbs. browned ground beef seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder 2 packs regular chili seasoning chili powder to taste While meat is browning, I dump all of the canned ingredients in a big pot. Do not drain the beans first. You can adjust the number of cans of the beans to suit your tastes. For example. We all like the Kidney beans better, so we use more of those than Pinto beans. Mix in the chili seasoning packets. Again. You may not want to use as much. I always use at least two packs. After meat is browned dump it in the chili bean mixture. Stir it well. Use chili powder if more chili taste is needed. Let simmer for a while and it's ready to go. This is so simple, yet gives you that hearty meaty chili that you want. And you can really adjust it to your family's tastes.
Shelly, I'd love it too! The others look good too. Adena, I'm pretty much one of those kind of cooks too - I rarely use a recipe when cooking something I *know*.
I make vegetarian chili a lot, usually 2-3 times a month for my dd. I've tried several vegetarian chili recipes from allrecipes - I don't know how to make it a clickable link, but you can cut and paste this if you are interested. http://search.allrecipes.com/recipe/quick.aspx?q1=vegetarian+chili&lnkid=65&image1.x=9&image1.y=12 I also use these recipes http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/find/results?search=vegetarian+chili&x=0&y=0
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INGREDIENTS: 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 cup chopped onions 3/4 cup chopped carrots 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 cup chopped green bell pepper 1 cup chopped red bell pepper 3/4 cup chopped celery 1 tablespoon chili powder 1 1/2 cups chopped fresh mushrooms 1 (28 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes with liquid, chopped 1 (19 ounce) can kidney beans with liquid 1 (11 ounce) can whole kernel corn, undrained 1 tablespoon ground cumin 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano 1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DIRECTIONS: Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Saute onions, carrots, and garlic until tender. Stir in green pepper, red pepper, celery, and chili powder. Cook until vegetables are tender, about 6 minutes. Stir in mushrooms, and cook 4 minutes. Stir in tomatoes, kidney beans, and corn. Season with cumin, oregano, and basil. Bring to a boil, and reduce heat to medium. Cover, and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. I use this one minus the carrots and add veggie fake meat. It is from allrecipes.com
From a texan, can I just say how weird it is to have beans in your chili? In general chili here is meat, tomato sauce, chili powder and lots of spice.
LOL Kaye, I was just thinking about how "different" these recipes are from what I am used to. I have never had many of the things listed in my chili. But, we do put in kidney beans. LOL Basically just hamburger, kidney beans, tomatoes with the juice, onion and seasoning is what we put in ours. Sometimes green peppers too, but not always.
By chance if you do want a Chili recipe with all fake meat and tomato sauce. I have one somewhere in one of my recipe books. It's excellent! Has brown sugar in it, yuuuum!
mmmmmmmmmmmm shelly that looks good! Thanks Catherin who doesn't think she'll put in carrots either... LOL Kaye! chili without beans, see to me that's weird
