Ordering books thru Amazon??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2006: Ordering books thru Amazon??
By Karen~moderator on Sunday, February 19, 2006 - 09:49 am:

Do any of you do this? I've been doing it for years and have had no problems, but now I think I do!

I recently placed a large order and received most of it yesterday. I am still owed one book from that order and one book from an order I placed in January.

I received a book yesterday in the mail, separate from my Amazon book order. It's a book I didn't order, there is no packing invoice with the package, and it came from another book seller with an Amazon Listing ID number, which is not valid.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else...........and what to do about it?

What is the customer service number for Amazon?

By Conni on Sunday, February 19, 2006 - 11:28 am:

No, I dont have any experience ordering from Amazon. Just wanted to say I hope you get it cleared up!! Sounds fishy.

I've always done fine with Amazon. But, I have read complaints from people who ordered books from sellers on Amazon - used books, from a seller that uses Amazon like other people use E-Bay. Did you pay by credit card or PayPal? If so, I'd make a written complaint to the credit card company or PayPal, asking them to withhold the specific amounts for the books you haven't gotten, and send a copy to Amazon.

I order from them ALL the time. I've had one problem, and it was for $4 so I just blew it off. Never rec'd the book and at the time was too busy to get bent out of shape about it.

I would try the # and explain it to them. Good luck!

I always use Amazon. We have only had one problem in the time we have used them. We called the number and not only did they fix the problem, they also gave us a gift certificate for our trouble. I was very pleased with how they resolved it.

Good luck!

Ginny, I never order used books, always new ones from Amazon. I checked my orders and this book is NOT on any of my orders. I have no clue where it came from. I used my debit card to pay, I use it for everything. The two I have not received are books that I knew were shipping separately, one won't even ship for a couple more months. The thing is, there's a price on the cover of this book that is much more than the price of the books I ordered anyway, and there is no invoice/packing slip included, just a printout with my name/address/name of book and an item # which does NOT coincide with any numbers Amazon has listed. Very puzzling.....I'm starting to wonder if someone sent it to me.....but normally people would tell you that, right?

I've always had good experiences with Amazon, but you can never be sure when you are buying through a VENDOR that works with Amazon. Toys R Us or somethign is ok, but sometimes the results are from little online stores, so you have to be careful. When I buy something that will arrive in an Amazon smiley box, I know it'll be fine. KWIM??

Yes, normally people would tell you. Can you check your bank account to see if you have been charged for it?

Is it a book someone might have ordered from Amazon as a gift for you and Amazon's shipping department forgot to put in the gift notice? If it is a gift from someone, that notice would have had the sender's name on it. I can understand why you are baffled.

I order a TON of books through Amazon. It is not unusual for books to be sent separately or back ordered. The best way to look to see if you were charged is to go into your account on the Amazon site and look at your order. If the strange book is not there, you will have to find out if it was sent by a friend or family. Good luck!
I love Amazon.com. I do 90% of my holiday shopping through them. Most of my books I need (want) for the kids are cheaper through Amazon. I get a 20% discount at Borders and Barnes & Noble for being an educator---Amazon is STILL cheaper!

I'm used to getting things shipped separately.

The puzzling thing about this is, I did not order it, and have no clue why it was sent to me.

It has a *packing slip*, it says:

Amazon Marketplac Item: The Year of Magical Thinking [Hardcover] by Didion, Joan
Listng ID: 0206J869267
SKU:
Quantity: 1

Purchased on: 06-Feb-2006
Shiped by: oktrbksaol.com
Shipping Address:

And has my name and address..........

Anything else I order from them has an Amazon packing list/invoice, listing everything, order date, item prices, etc.

Actually, I didn't order anything on Feb. 6.............. so I have no clue why I have this! It makes me wonder if someone sent this to me because I lost so many relatives last year??

By Bea on Sunday, February 19, 2006 - 11:45 pm:

Was it a used book? It sounds as if a vendor got mixed up. Some are very small at-home operations and it does happen. I get used books there all the time. I've had very slow service at times, but they always have arrived.

Nope, brand new..............
